Erm, kinda as per the thread title really!

Having had the misfortune to use a number of very mediocre and over priced garages in the Aberdeenshire area, for the next quite major service on my car I thought I would make the 60 mile trip to Insch and see Dave as he did many hours of sterling work fixing my rattly knackered old BMW M5 and never once shafted me on work or cost. The young lad who was there advised that John was out but that Dave had moved on a number of years ago (I haven't used JD in about 6 years due to having moved to Glasgow) to a place in Strathdon.

So, does anybody know where he is and if possible the name of the garage?

On a side note, why is it that most garages and car mechanics in the North East make it seem like they don't actually want the business, and when they do then begrudgingly take the work on then do a half arsed job and charge a fking fortune?

Grumble over irked

Strathdon I think - cant remember the name of the place but if you head out that way from Alford (as if you are going to the Lecht) you'll pass the garage thumbup

Do you know if he's running the place himself, or just a mechanic there? Not the handiest place to get back into Aberdeen from, time to check the bus timetable!

99% sure it's his business.

Agree it's a bit of a sod for public transport - you could get a taxi to Insch or Huntly to get the train back to aberdeen.

Dave's bro-in-law here. Dave and my Sis run the Garage, Shop and Post office at Glenkindie called the "Central Garage". He can now do you the full package servicing, MOT, Motorbike MOT and Tyre Changing.

Thanks for that, I'll try and pop out next week then and have a chat. If you see him you can mention the idiot that had the dodgy old blue BMW M5 will be coming in past to see if he can work on his dodgy old Ford! smile

Dave still looks after some of my cars and can highly recommend. You'll enjoy the drive there.

Cairn O' Mount, Deeside Road to Ballater, over to Cockbridge then back towards Glenkindie. A selection of roads I have covered many times in both cars and bikes. I will indeed enjoy it smile

Have you tried premier motors on the hardgate??
No, but given the fact I've used about 7 different garages in my time in Aberdeen, all bar Dave have been the most unhelpful bunch of useless buggers I've ever had the misfortune to meet! As my old man once told me, find a decent mechanic that you trust and stick with them, they are worth their weight in gold!

Just to say, got the car back from Central Garage today, everything done that I asked, car given a (reasonably) clean bill of health, and all at an extremely competitive labour rate!! If you're needing a very good mechanic who actually knows what they are doing, I would happily recommend Dave. Worth going out there for the chat alone if I'm honest, though the drive there and back is always a nice bonus smile

Hi, I took my E46 M3 to Glenkindie last week. Excellent service, warm welcoming reception, good service and at a cost well below main dealer rate. Dave very obviously knows his stuff. I would have no hesitation to thoroughly recommend this garage to anyone.
