This might be a silly question, but here goes

My daughter is 14 years and I an a petrol head with a few cars, and it is rubbing off on her a bit

she asked me if she could try and drive the car, when she was young she use to change the gears for me

( probably better than i can :-) )

I was wondering is there anywhere i could take her legally for a small shot near Bishopbriggs?

I don't know if it would be legal in say B&Q car park or the like

All answers appreciated

Thanks

I have seen the on board one

Been told it is just driving in the Hamilton race coarse car park back and forward.

Will take a look at the Knockhill one.

Thanks.

yes, the on board training is driving round in circles, directly outside my window.
No effort made to make it interesting by putting cones up or anything just around and around.

I wouldn't waste my time with it.

My lad did it a few years back and really enjoyed it, they did put cones out for them to drive around, even in reverse as well. It was much more than just driving round the car park, they seemed to use a fair bit of the grounds at the time. It's certainly not a race track experience but as it was his first time in a car it seemed to be at just the correct level for him.

Just stay off public roads.

I used to teach mine from an early age to drive using private carparks, and best of all, industrial estates as they are marked out with the usual white lines etc.

Getting a handle on car control, i.e. clutch, gears, brakes steering etc, is 90% of it. Best to achieve this before actually driving on the road under tuition.

I am fairly sure that could get you and the young driver into a lot of trouble unless the car park/industrial estate is gated to prevent members of the public gaining access.

They are accessible and private so there's no problem.

At weekend these places are usually empty of cutomers and traffic and ideal for getting to grips with the controls of a car.

Although the roads are marked out as public roads, they aren't enforceable much like the markings you'd get within a hospital road system.

They may be private, but all the normal rules and laws of the road apply. You still need to be fully legal to drive there. Same with private roads/supermarket car parks etc. Basically if the public have access then all normal road laws apply, regardless of who owns the land.
