Do the ASC's at Symington still work? Was passed by X77 bus at 60mph in the 50 zone. As they are a regular (hourly?) service, I assume they must know.

May be he had stopped and was able to go faster cos the average was still under 50

Only the first two at Bogend Toll and the last two into Girvan (where the kids died that instigated the cameras in the first place)

Those Stagecoach X77 drivers drive like utter bellends, the amount of dodgy manoeuvres ive seen them pull all along the m77 heading towards Ayrshire, plus daft things like going all the way down the inside lane of the m77 which cuts off at junction 1 for Pollokshields/Mosspark then at the last minute cutting back onto what's became the inside lane, previously middle lane, after J1, sitting at the speed limit in the outside lane, when the inside is clear so nobody can get past etc. It would not surprise me them speeding through specs.

Really? Are you 100% on this, or listening to a pal of mine in the pub. (Not sure if he was winding me up)

Bloody things, right on my doorstep. frown

These cameras cost £80k per year each to administrate and maintain..

South Ayrshire thought they could use them as a way to "tax" the motorist, but the govt. now takes the fines generated instead (they don't want cameras to be seen as an obvious cash cow) and gives them back a "road safety grant", so SA only use them now as a visual deterrent and use the coppers with unmarked cars and vans instead to police the road. Very few people have ever been fined on the A77 by the specs cameras themselves.

I live just off the A77, near Monkton.

I've honestly never heard of one person who has been caught by the SPECS... heard of people getting pulled by unmarked cars etc... but never from an average speed camera.

I push it a wee bit... sit with cruise control on at 55(on my speedo) and have been fine. Wouldn't be confident in saying they are 'switched off' but certainly don't feel they are set up to a 50mph average.

Yes, they are the only sets that have ever worked.

Anybody know if they are ever going to remove the 50mph limit on the Symington section?

Millions spent on flyovers and junction improvements/removals and still lumbered with the 50 limit that was apparently doing its job of making it safe anyway. What was the point?

Definitely only the first two are active.

Take a look on Google street view and you'll see the first two sets of cameras are actually different from the rest.

Update:

OK - So now looks like we have rear facing cameras installed, I presume these will be live?

Just flipping fabulous.

Not exactly a recent publication, or even a trustworthy one.

I'm certainly curious about the rear facing cameras. What are they about? Average speed or just anpr? Will be interesting g to hear if the original lack of face inhibiting prosecution will now hold up again.

Probably both and also to nail the bikers too. Noticed they were installed just before the NW 200.
