Anyone going?

There doesn't seem to much being said about it but there's bunch of us heading up from the TVRCC NE region - it would be good if there was good turnout?

Website here - http://www.ingliston.co.uk/

I'm not connected to the organisers just wondering what to expect...

I went today with my kids. I liked it although it was smaller than expected and with less on display then I expected. There was a lot of very nice cars including the new mclaren. It was also quite quiet which meant no or small queues for food or activities. Lots of cheap activities for the kids inc. segway rides for a fiver and the land rover experience for just a donation.

The track action was pretty tame with the cars and bikes only doing parade laps and not really getting opened up. Probably due to health and safety as the track is obviously not designed for racing these days. But on the whole not bad considering its only £20 to get in.

Johnny.

I'm looking to head along tomorrow hopefully.

How many old Ingliston cars and guys have turned up for it?

Been a long day today at Ingliston,
The rain didn't help, So the start was pretty slow, and I had this feeling it was going to be a repeat of the washout at Silverstone Classic this year, but any event is what you make it and had some good chat with some great people.

Overall as an event it was pretty small, and the general consensus was it was just not advertised well enough to get the cars there, the "shopping village" on the map was no existsant, and only a handful of food vendors. On the plus side the weren't crowds so very little queuing required.
Make sure you bring cash, ended up walking to the BP on the A8 so I could get a spot of lunch.

As to the "track action" to be honest it was pretty poor and it seemed as the only cars on track where the "super car experience" laps, and consisted of a 4-door m3 drifting all day, along with a smattering of other cars pooling round.

There were a few "parades" for folk that were taking the cars round, and while it would be a logistical nightmare, I think a heavier bias towards getting more different owners cars out would have been the viewing more interesting.
Of course, it's always a fine balance between more cars and the hazard of the varying degrees of driver skill (and patience)

Since the car club section is penned in by the track, once you're in, you're in till 6pm
Not necessarily a bad thing, since you need to make the best of it and promotes more cross marque socialisationbiggrin

It's an event I'd really love to see grow legs, Scotland needs a good Goodwood/SSC/CPoP type event, and Ingliston could work if it could get past it's teething problems and be more focused on demoing rare/historic cars than taking up track time ferrying folk around in a Labmbo for £89 a pop!
Ambitious event, but not executed to its full potential

The blue whale at the end of long day, time for a dram and a sleep.

The reports I'm seeing on facebook are not positive - from both spectators and exhibitors. A few feel it is nothing much more than a grand promo for the supercar experience days. If that's the case its a dire shame and what a missed opportunity.

There is some videos on YouTube. It doesn't look very good at all.

I don't see much reviving of the history of Ingliston racing, just modern cars being tamely driven round the track.

I didn't think it would be easy to find many of the old guys and cars.

Ended up not returning today, despite the decent weather.

Didn't really feel up to standing around for 10hrs, and no-one is going to miss the Datsun.
Part of me wants to support what could grow to be a good event....but another part of me can't be bothered with it being a non stop "experience" advert.

I went yesterday and agree with the poster todays full analysis.

However, I think there is great scope for this event. I wanted a different venue for the Italian car and bike day and to make it a supercar car and bike day and have a track for people to se cars moving. This venue could provide a possible setting for what I wanted and I will be speaking to the promoter next week about stand see if we can do something together for next year. I know Andrew from TT also wanted to speak to him and see what we can do.

If anyone likes this idea then please let me know

I was invited along to the Press and "Corporate" day on the Friday.

To be quite honest, it was a joke, there were 3 car dealers there( McLaren, Murrays and Pentland) no catering whatsoever, untill a coffee van rolled up at 11. No razamataz whatsoever, and If it hadnt been for the guys at Murrays who put on an effort for the Launch of the Evora 400, it would have been an utter waste of time.

There was only two historic cars to be seen, and no vendors whatsoever.

I have to question the sense in putting an event like this on when there can be no racing or sprint etc on track to keep the punters amused, and to have it the same weekend as the Goodwood Revival, can only be described as commercial suicide for an inuagral event!

Hi
I went today with the kids.

Knowing that it clashed with Goodwood,an SMRC meeting and that the SMRC were not involved were barriers that I hope next year could be overcome.

For a first year I actually thought it was not a bad effort. It is a fantastic location that is easily accessible and has lots of space for parking. It was good to see many old faces from my motorsport past and some nice cars on show.

Today it is chalk and cheese from Goodwood events but that is ok as long as each year it gets better.

So imagine next year it has the following:

A great collection of historic and current race cars on show from SMRC and other motorsports clubs

All brands car clubs...make it fair and affordable! I hear initially it was a bit pricey to attend.

SMRC fully engaged even thought it is not an official motorsport event

Tartan Tarmac present

GT Scotland present

You could have 350 super cars alone from the above members

Paul's Italian car day database of customers, bring that event back to life!

Remote control cars etc

Some stunt shows

Motorcycle displays

Drift displays

Monster truck action

Have some touring cars there on show and driving around. Bring in our local heroes past and present. They had John Cleland there today, perhaps Gordon Shedden for next year!

Really good food vendors. The food was not too bad today!

Something with a charitable theme. Running/Cycling sprint during track break. Get exhibitors and visitors involved.

Quality retail village...I'll be there with Edinburgh Watch Company!!!!

Get approval for 10-12 cars on track at a time

Perhaps a larger covered area with BBQ, bands playing through the day. What can they learn from Car Fest. Get a headline act and guests can stay there t'il late Friday/Saturday/Sunday night.

Set aside a really good marketing budget and start publicity early next year.

More kids activities. Tank driving, mini-driving, mini-motor bikes etc etc

Limitless potential!

There maybe is loads of potential, but not much of that has anything to do with I thought this weekend was about.

The entire build up, pictures, videos and talk surrounded how Ingliston used to be. I really thought the entire weekend was a special event to mark the history of Ingliston.

We knew in advance there wouldn't be racing, but I'm sure most people wouldn't have considered it could be so tame.

I'm not sure what they revived?
