I'm guessing the organisers won't be able to put up a thread about it so I thought I'd start a wee discussion topic.

The attached link dropped into my inbox last night;

http://mandrillapp.com/track/click/30119679/shouto...

and that then links to this;

http://www.rdsf.co.uk/

It appears to be the Speedfest replacement but with actual motorsport interest. A mini Goodwood Festival of Speed if you will. Having been a regular attendee at Speedfest at Alford I've enjoyed the fact that there are moving cars but it's always been quite small and tight. I think the castle could give this a pretty interesting background.

It has certainly sparked my interest. I've applied to run the Alfa up the hill and stick a couple of cars on display.

Anyone else thinking of attending to give it a go?

Registered, quite fancy taking the Z4M up the hill climb for something different.

Did Speedfest a number of years ago, but always found the track extremely boring.

James,
Great to hear about a new event.

I should say that this is NOT a replacement for the Alford Speedfest which will take place on the 3rd July 2016, once again under the auspices of the Grampian Transport Museum.

Cheers!

Got the same e-mail this morning. It'll be interesting to see cars doing the hill climb. Hopefully the one way traffic system works well as I've never really experienced any traffic issues getting to and from Alford.

hopefully there will be the same range and quality of cars on display as at Speedfest, as there have been some truly stunning cars in attendance . smile

Edit: Didn't realise this wasn't a replacement for Speedfest.

Syd,

Thanks for that. Well we are being spoiled up here in the North East! Two car events in the same quarter!
Sadly I can't make that date as i'll hopefully be racing at Donington that weekend but I'm sure the day will go well.

I have registered to give the TVR a blast up this new hill, I thought Black Dog Events took over the Speedfest as GTM didn't want to run it themselves but I am glad both venues will be used next year.

I am home for both as well which is nice smile

I believe Speedfest is going back to what it used to be - more club/individual based, and less corporate than was the case this year

Bit concerned to see that people are confused about the these two events. From my understanding SpeedFest will be run at the GTM in Alford in July; the Royal Deeside Speed Festival is a new hillclimb event and will be run at Kincardine Castle, Kincardine O'Neil, nr Banchory on 21 August 2016. Great to see so much more motorsport in the North East - I'm going to both!

I received the same e-mail and posted a discussion thread on "FlatChat" ( the Scottish Hillclimb and Sprint Forum). So far as I am concerned the more venues in Scotland the better. I'm not sure whether the Hillclimb bit is to MSA spec but if it is then I'm sure there would be interest from the quick folk (and me)

So far as Speedfest (Alford) is concerned - we have a great venue and resource there with enthusiastic and willing supporters so, time permitting, I intend taking the old green air-cooled thing to both !

Great to see another venue in the area. Pre-registered the V12V. It's been a long time since I ran anything up a hill!

It's easy to see why when reading the e-mail, it makes lots of references to Speedfest and uses pictures from Speedfest. the fourth paragraph especially which reads: "However during SF15 we became aware of some short comings and having listened very hard to your feedback after the event, we quickly concluded that in order to address such issues we would need to part ways with the Museum and also look for a new venue—issues such as the car parking congestion on the A944, the lack of space for club stands, lack of adequate catering and toilets, etc."

The only reference to this being a new event is in the title of the e-mail, but even then there is mention of Speedfest in the title also. It's absolutely correct that it should be referenced as I believe the last couple of years at Alford have been superb, easily the best car show I've attended recently. But I feel some clarification would be need to avoid confusion, like possibly mentioning the date of Speedfest as well.

Can't help but agree with this to an extent. There's plenty of room for two such events in the north east, but at present when the Alfordspeedfest.co.uk URL leads to the Royal Deeside Speed Festival website, it's all seems a bit confused. I can't help thinking attendance at both will suffer if they don't put a little distance between them.

RDSF website says : "Black Dog Events, organised SpeedFest 14 and 15 and the success has meant we have located a larger venue for 2016." and "Plans have already been kick-started to capitalise upon the successes of 2015 to ensure that RDSF remains the premier motoring and motorsport event in NE Scotland in 2016"

Sounds like a replacement to me - or a "parting of the ways" between the RDSF organisers and whoever is doing Speedfest now.
