NC500 (north coast road)
Discussion
I am planning to do the NC500 with a few mates this summer, being from the Highlands I have done pretty much all the roads at some point in the past but never all in one go.
Unfortunately we will be doing it in considerably less style than some posters here, most likely camping for the most of it and the cars will range from my ageing E46 to a VW Caddy van
Does anyone have any recommendations on good places to camp, or even cheap B&Bs?
Hopefully Applecross will go better for me this time, last time my gear linkage gave up the ghost right at the top and I had to drive all the way back down in 1st until I got signal on my phone!

If anyone is doing this soon I can recommend the Applecross Inn for food, and the Lochinver Larder which is famous for its choice of pies (they are so popular they post them out all over britain) but the rest of the menu is lovely but you should go for the pie and mash!
Allow time(5-6 hours ideally) to pull over and walk to Sandwood bay which is one of the best beaches anywhere. It will be a highlight of your trip.

That is a fantastic website, thanks for that! Can see that being very useful over summer, not just for NC500 craig2003 said:

Thanks for that, there will be a few of us so that could be a laugh. Cheers! This thread has been helpful reading it! I am doing the NC500 on 29th of April. Starting it anyway! Look forward to the areas you have suggested for pictures. We will be camping at Scourie if anyone has been there before and can advise on anything that will be appreciated!
Also have seen these on eBay I have ordered some!

Only advice I would offer is perhaps camp in Durness instead. Pub right next to campsite, camping overlooking the beach. Smoo cave to explore and Coco Mountain at Balnakeil Village. Search for Sango Sands for more info. Also have seen these on eBay I have ordered some!
