Ahoy,

Had a search on the forum and a google but cant really find any information so hoping someone here can help.

I am due to pick up my new car from Glasgow the middle of next week and I will be staying in the city for about 10 days. I am not staying at a hotel nor does the flat I'm staying at have parking.

Does anyone know anywhere secure and reasonably priced, preferably in the city centre, where I could leave my car for around 10 days, Being able to come and go would be preferable? All the multi stories seem outrageously priced unless I pick it up before 0800 and even then I have no where to put it.

I have heard a mention of a secure warehouse run by 'Big Al'...anyone have any information on this? Or any other ideas? I guess the last resort is leaving it at the airport but as stated I would rather have access.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Is this for a particularly exotic car or will anywhere do as long as it's not likely to get broken into?

I wouldn't want to leave that just lying about the place. Can you do one of those 'hire my garage' things in Glasgow? I do know there's a few people in and around Glasgow with decent off street parking who are on pistonheads but wouldn't presume to offer their space for them. I have a few lockups but none near Glasgow unfortunately, I only asked about the car as I thought it might have a bearing on where would be suitable to keep it.

Yeah neither do I!

Yeah that is an option but not really sure where to look. I did have a little look but from what I can see most people are looking to rent them out long term and not for just a little over a week.

I suppose out at the airport is an option but that takes away access. Its not really mandatory to have access but it would be nice.

Yeah its city centre. Im not really looking for somewhere on the doorstep. As long as its secure thats the number one priority. Close by would be a nice to have.

Is it being bought from BMW themselves?

If so I'd ask the dealer...

I used to use 'Big Als' warehouse next to the piping centre when I worked in town. Fairly convenient, cheap, and usually some nice cars in there - Id leave my car there before I would a multi storey. A friend used to leave his 911 Turbo there for days and weeks on end with no trouble.

Sounds good. You have any contact details for him?

Surely just parking it on a street in a semi-posh, leafy suburb would suffice?
Free, 24hr access, easily reached by train...

This. West end probably easier - somewhere near Subway stops. Despite misinformed stereotypes, Glasgow is a relatively safe place and I know many people with far more attractive cars who leave them on the street, it won't be a problem.

I'm not sure he'd know what telephone/internet/email was...!

No, he's old school, its the warehouse next to The Piping Centre on Dunblane Street. You show up, have a chat with him for 5 or 10 minutes about something no doubt strange (he runs a pest control business and keeps a hawk which is often seen sitting on the roof of the Piping Centre until it wants fed), pay him some cash and go on your way.

Took a walk there earlier to go and speak to him but its closed. According to the signs posted around it it closed on the 1st April 2016. Other signs indicate that it is also now under offer.

Real shame, that seemed like the perfect place frown

Airport is looking more and more likely. Im not keen on leaving my car in a suburb on the other end of the city.

Everyone that sees your car will assume that you are a gangster and stay well clear of your car. You wont even need to lock it.
