Been through this a fair few times, including today. Do HGV drivers know something about the cameras that the rest of us don't, I continually get past by HGVs who are travelling well over the 50mph limit, are the cameras turned off? On the actual road works when do they actually finish, it's says Spring 17, but what does that mean, I assume it's a phased completion? They do seem to be making a lot of progress

Truck speedos are more accurate than cars which over read. For instance, a truck will read 56 mph (90 kph speed limiter max) and a car following will read approx 60 mph on its speedo. Add the probability that the truck driver will push the 10% over speed leeway and you'll see trucks "flying past you".

If your speedo is showing 50, you're probably only doing about 46 mph. The cameras will probably only issue tickets for a true 57 and above or thereabouts, which is about 62 or 63 on your speedo.

Some people gamble on this difference, hence why they fly past you.

yes

A GPS reading on Satnav can show just how low speedos actually read

very useful in average speed areas

When it is quiet, I've travelled between cameras on the A9 at an indicated 65 on my phone's Pocket GPS Camera Alert display. That must be close to 70 on the car speedo.

Nothing has arrived in the post to date ................

If I join the M8 east bound at Newhouse there is only one SPECS camera before the zone ends. So SPECS obviously need two cameras to get your average so theoretically you can join here and just floor it?

The Saabs speedo is actually remarkably accurate as it's only 2 mph out at 60 (top of the 0 on the 60 is GPS 60) and I go through those cameras at an indicated 54 or 55, so actually about 53. Been doing that since they were put up and no problems. I end up going past 99.9% of traffic too and some at a decent pace. Not a single ticket has came through the door yet, I doubt you'd set them off until you're doing 56 or above.

Recent article I read on this, when announcing the Bargeddie 10 week closure roadworks on the M8 said spring 2017 for completion, is there anyone out there in the know who has a more accurate date of when the full upgrade will be completed to save the supposed 15 minutes at peak times?
