Traffic caused by the council. So the council can justify a congestion charge in a few years time!

It's 11.7 miles from my office to the house. Yesterday it took me 1 hour and 30 minutes to get home - incredible !

Regularly takes me 40 mins to get from Leith to The Meadows. I've taken to walking. It's quicker (and healthier apparently?)

Yip! Been in Edinburgh since 1998 and slowly saw it getting worse and worse struggling with movement east to west and west to east twice a day. I cannae imagine how it gets solved whether that be some sort of upgrade or a major road built on a different route but the figure that springs to mind is billions! Is there space to run an M8 style road across the coastal side of the city from the A1 to the A90?

As for the city, I'll never understand it. Aside from road works that often spring up and cause temporary issues some days thing flow nicely and others it's like another city's worth of cars have been magically dropped in for no reason.

They'll not be interested in solving it with infrastructure. I get a general vibe from the city council through to my employer that they'll make car usage more and more of a hassle.

I have to drive from Calder Rd to Leith every day, 6 mile trip, 24 sets of traffic lights.

Yes, it's 100% the council's fault. The phasing of traffic lights is so bad now, I just go through some reds if it is clear. Wait till the 20 limits come in. I may start taking a 10 mile detour down the bypass. How "green".

Of course they will. They won't be happy until we're all sat like mugs on bicycles in the daily pissing rain. I can not wait to leave this city.

1) Take your CBT.
2) Take your motorcycle test.
3) Pass your motorcycle test.
4) Buy a motorcycle of whatever capacity suits your needs.
5) Buy suitable wet weather gear, can be worn over office clothing.
6) Commute in by motorcycle, laugh at the muppets stuck in their cars.
7) Park free of charge all day.
8) Commute home by motorcycle, laugh at the muppets still stuck in their cars.
9) Abandon motorcycle in winter when it's snowing or sub-zero. Global warming will minimise these days, according to the council.

1 Take the cbt
2 Buy a 125cc scooter
3 Use it

If, in the 2 years you have till you need to sit a test, you don't realise what a good idea this is, go back to sitting in your car.

I'm glad it has been noted by others that it has gotten noticeably worse in the last month or so.

Moved to Corstorphine area (so I can escape north across the bridge easily when I need to without spending all day driving across the city) in February and commute to Straiton. Doesn't matter which way I go, usually takes ages, granted not as long as what some of you put up with.

Come to the conclusion that I should have stuck with the bridge traffic every day, and that if you want a nice car, don't live in Edinburgh as the roads, the council and other drivers (based on the way they drive) are just there to wear you down and destroy your car...

I am in Leith also. So glad I can walk to work or get a bus if it's bad weather. Used to drive some days and although nice to be in your own car it was far more stressful than walking.

I truly believe that it is a deliberate ploy by Edinburgh City Council fktards.

1 hour from Comely Bank to Dobbies last weekend. Only 2 hours sometimes from Comely bank to Aberdeen airport!

Got a bike but due the nature of tools and equipment I may need to lug to different places on any given day it's not always practical.

Holy st avoid west side of town today, roadworks on Queensferry road at Clermiston Road North. Took me and hour to get from Crewe Toll to Craigmount...

Why can't they do roadworks on the the main way out of the city westbound at night? Must be 1,000s of wasted hours from people stuck in queues.

Lived in Edinburgh for 35 years and things are getting worse. It's shocking that the local council can sanction disruptive road works by contractors on main arterial routes causing major grief to commuters. The works running down Leith Street past John Lewis are coming up for 6 months single lane , that along with my regular rat run down the back of the station to Holirood being closed for a similar time causes havovc at the east end of Princess Rtreet. Jesus how long can it take to repair ground works and resurface. I've lost count of the times I've driven past with no workers present let alone working!!! Any main city routes. I.e. A1 etc should be tackled on a 24 hr basis. Even the " residents don't want disturbed at night by roadworks" blurb doesn't pan out as these are the same people that are hindered daily by the same drawn out disruptive works. Please ..Edinburgh council stop making fools of yourselves and get a grip! Rant over...feel better now....Ian
