I have an issue with the belt for my supercharger slipping above a certain boost (~6psi). I can't put any more tension into the belt safely (without risking the bearings in the charger) so need to roughen up the contact surface on the pulley wheels. Does anyone know where I can get pulley wheels roughened up (i.e. through sand-blasting, coating etc)? Need to be able to make my full 12psi!

Thanks in advance!

Can you not move to wider belt 8 rib vs 6 or fit a bigger crank pulley to allow a bigger charger pulley for the same boost ?

Don't know what set up you have but I was making a Bar of boost with a 6 rib pulley on my M3 without any slip.

I don't think changing wheels is going to work, other than if they are roughened - belt is about as tight as it can go now. I'll look into seeing if a wider belt is possible but I'm not hopeful. Thanks for the advice anyway. smile

Sorry, I can't help with a place that will roughen up the pulleys but I seen this http://mccormicktools.co.uk/hycote-belt-slip-spray... and thought it might be an alternative?

I'll give that a go - cheers!

Wouldn't the movement of the belt against the pulley just smooth the surface out again?
Changing the pulleys for toothed versions could be a more permanent fix.

The belt shouldn't move against the pulley wheel though. It is currently doing that (i.e. slipping), that is what I am trying to resolve.

Sorry for being late to the party, but what belt have you got? - from the sound of it a fairly narrow multi v belt?

As each v slides into the groove in the pully, it will polish the pully a bit?

What about adding a tensioner so the belt gets wrapped around more of the pully?

Sorry for the hair brained ideas!

Looks like a common problem on the Paxton kit. Some people are blasting the pulleys and one or two have them coated. Both camps claim success. One of the threads shows a blasted wheel that didn't buff up in use.

Hope you get sorted.

Yes, I have a tensioner but it does not seem to be working very well. Will look into re-engineering it.

Yup, it is quite a common problem it seems. I'm looking into roughening up the pulley wheel surfaces a bit. Some sort of media blasting I think. Cheers. smile

Try belt dressing spray from your local agricultural engineer
