Hello everyone,

I've been a long time lurker on Pistonheads and finally decided to create an account. Right now I'm studying in university in Edinburgh, was wondering if there were any 'enthusiast' or modified car owners on the forum? If so, can anyone pass on some details on any local upcoming car events? I would love to attend.

I'm about to do a dissertation on the subject of car enthusiasts/ modified car owners - would anyone be interested in participating in doing some short interviews on the subject? it'll just be a quick chat on the subject of cars and the joys and problems that come with owning an 'enthusiast'/ modified car.

Cheers,

SRE30

I'm a PH-er, in Edinburgh. I'm sure there are others.

Would put myself in the car enthusiast category as opposed to the modified car owners. Although, I'm about to modify my ISF with some carbon wrap and some DRL / fog light changes (plus it's already got the aftermarket valved exhaust).

There's plenty of us about. I'm in Fife but went to a couple of the Edinburgh meetups when they were on. We have a curry over in Glasgow once a month with a few people coming in from Edinburgh area and Fife. This might not be on again for a while but send me a PM if you want details.

A lot of the scotland scene you can find via Tartan Tarmac or GT Scotland from meets that regular.

There is a curry night once a month over at India Quay in Glasgow, check out via TT on Facebook

I'm in west Edinburgh. Dependent on when this might be, I'm happy enough in principle to assist.

I am more likely to be found dragging a 25ft caravan behind me as I am boosting my old Focus down a B road however, so while I may have been your target interviewee a decade or two ago, maybe not so much now!

Thanks for the information and the offers of help everyone, greatly appreciated. I'm still waiting to do my driving test, so I'm still stuck with the bus or the bike for a little while longer I'm afraid - though I'd love to attend the car shows or meets if there are any relatively close ones in the future.

I will check out Tartan Tarmac right now - good to see how big the car scene is around Scotland. My dissertation is still in the planning stages, so it doesn't necessarily have to be about modified cars, I'm still in the process of narrowing down my focus group depending on the replies. Right now I'm also looking at Japanese import car owners - hoping this will apply to more PistonHeads that are interested in participating.

Cheers,

There is a jap scene but there's also quite a hot rod scene too. There's a meeting every month where several dozen enthusiasts bring their cars to a big car park. I can't remember where it is now, possibly Motherwell. It's organised by tartan tarmac. Plenty of networking opportunities at that.

I'll pitch in as well.
I'm more a classic car nut than a posh (money no object) performance polisher wink

I'm just out of town near the water crossings to Fife and I know the local Scimitar club meet out here on a regular basis.

You may also want to check out GT Scotland for networking opportunities. They have a facebook page and regular breakfast meet-ups in Edinburgh.
If you would be interested in the views of a non-wag, female petrol-head I would be happy to participate.

That's perfect guys, the more the better! The problem with (or benefit) of these Sociology dissertations is that the research question can easily be modified depending on my findings.

So I had a hour or so in the company of Victor (OP) last night answering his questions and having a bit of a chat.

He reckons he needs around twenty interviewees as part of his preparatory work and had certainly put together a well structured line of questions/discussion points. Hopefully he'll be able to put something together with a few more of you.

I am just south of Edinburgh and have a modified Eunos Roadster and would definitely class myself as a car enthusiast (hell, i've been on here forever! biggrin).

Happy to help if I can.

I cant remember exactly what its called, but there is/was a modified section at the 'Scottish car show' its usually on in the summer, but looking up that show might throw up some owners clubs/ modified car clubs worth a bit more investigation.
