Hello All

I'm from Aberdeen but have been living in Adelaide, Australia for almost 5 years! It's time to come back for a holiday in July or August. I'm nosing around to see what's on and found this event:

http://www.rdsf.co.uk/

It looks really cool! Did anyone go last year or is anyone competing this year?

Now to decide on flights..

Chop,

Long time no hear!

Glad to see the Aussies are letting you out. A 5 year sentence to be stuck down there must have meant you did something really bad! wink

I'll be heading along to the RDSF. I've entered the Alfa into the hillclimb and would take my Vanquish along too. I was meant to be there last year but fell ill the night before the event so was laid up in bed with a horrible fever.

Would be good to catch up with you when you're here anyway so drop me a line on the email in my profile.

We went along last year, purely as spectators.

Overall a really good day out, aided by fantastic weather. In terms of a hill climb event, it was not terribly competitive as the narrow track meant that the runs were not timed. However, most of the drivers put their feet down and it was still a fun watch. There was an excellent display of cars, vintage and modern, and plenty of stalls to keep everyone interested.

There were some issues with access to the site, and organisation in the car parks, but I'm sure that will improve. We are lucky as we live 2 miles away, so approached by a back lane.

Great day out though, and will go again this year.

I seem to recall this was the same day as All Ford at the GTM in Alford.

Full disclosure - I am one of the event organisers (that's me in the video on our website main page :-0 ) - so ill limit what I say to avoid the risk of the post being removed for 'advertising'

Hoping to build on the success of last year's event, we've booked the sunshine again and fixed (well, the proof is in the pudding, but it should be all good now) the car parking issues form last year (who'd have thought 8000 people attending an event in Royal Deeside would have caused a traffic jam and a car parking issue!?)

Yes - last year GTM moved Allford to the same date as RDSF, but this year that is not the case.

I have been blown away with the interest we've had so far!

James - I've seen the entry for the Alfa - cant wait to see it being driven in anger on the day!

How are things looking for tomorrow?

Has the grounds stood up to the torrential rain?

Well I live 2 miles away and it has been chucking it down this evening. If the carpark is the same as last year, i.e: on the side of a hill, it could be 'interesting' in the morning.

I woke up on Sun morning fearing the worst, as it was still raining from the night before. However, the ground in the car club field held up really well.

Much better than last year, still some room to improve but overall turning into a decent event. This was a make or break year for the organisers IMO, if it hadn't gone well after the issues last year I think the writing could have been on the wall for this but it turned out well and looking forward to next year

Good day out. Fair few people found that the track was a bit slippy towards the top in the morning session...made for a lot of delays in the proceedings. Interesting mix of machinery on the hill and in the paddocks.

I didn't make it to the actual show, but I did pop along the night before to spend a little time with the cars, my camera and some lighting gear.
I was meant to have an assistant, but the weather put them off helping, so I just went from car to car, messing about and creating some shots I'd never normally be able to do at a show. Got carried away and it was after midnight that I left - haha

Anyway, here are a few of my favourite shots...

Ace photos, I might bring mine along the day before if a photo of it would turn out as good as that smile

Calum (RedThree),

Thanks for the great picture of me in the Alfa! I was having an excellent time. First time I've really driven the car this year!

No problem James, there's a link on its way to you that'll take you to some more full resolution photos of you in the Alfa. Looked like a good fun track, apart maybe from the slippy bit at the top!
