What do you all drive?
Discussion
I don't know why I put that list in. Showoff? Sad old man? Nostalgia? Hard to say really. I think I did it for sheer enjoyment - digging out old photo albums and then remembering the jewels and the dogs.
I should really put them in order, with proper notes and stories - I remember them all well enough to do it, but boy, it would take time!
The one kept longest was the Quattro at 8 years, and the shortest the Sunbeam Alpine at 2 hours. The whole thing started in 1947, and averages out at a "keeping time per car" of about two and a quarter years (two car family).
I don't think the list will get any longer. Insurance companies reckon you're dead at 65, and at 77 it's a real pain. Doesn't matter whether you can drive or not - words like Maserati scare the hell out of them. Never mind, I've been very lucky, and enjoyed every minute of it!

Oi McNab.
We want the stats and the details!
Steve (I only list mine from 2000 as they were complete crap before then, and yours were not)
typical me: Blue Hilman Imp: bought 5th hand in 1974 - was absolute rubbish, leaked even when it didn't rain... never started, key broke in the ignition so had to hot wire if I wanted to drive it - but it did start to grow grass from the back windscreen rubber, (probably as I was sleeping in it at the time) and then someone nicked all the wheels whilst it was parked in a car park in Tottenham, and I got back to see the car on bricks. Just left it there. For all I know it still is.
Worst twenty seven pounds ten shillings and sixpence I ever spent on a car.

Howsit Ross!
I dont race for a couple of reasons:
a) lack of talent
b) can't afford it
c) live too far away
d) lack of ta - damn it i already said that!

Its not that expensive! At least you are realistic about talent, but you never know how good you are until you've tried it, some people think they are Michael Schumacher on the road, but then when they try to race they don't have an ounce of talent in their bodies.
As for distance, where do you live? A guy that is now retired used to drive from Ardnamurchen in the morning before every race in his Rover SD1 towing his Clan Crusader.
He had a heart attack after he came in from practice and my Dad (a doc) brought him back. He woke up just before his race was meant to start, and he said that he was a little puzzled why he was covered in wires and had such a sore chest and he could just make it back to Knockhill before his race was de to start.
My Dad got a trophey and a large cheque from David Coulthard for saving "Stan the Clan's" life, he was dumbfounded, he was just doing his job!
I hadnt spotted that Kenny wondered why there was such poor lines!
Im in Edinburgh so not too far from Knockhill, my mum lives in Strontian so thats a fair old trek, especially if towing! I guess my too far excuse doesnt count then! I thought you were talking about the LOT race series and im definitely too far away for that! Maybe one day when ive managed to save up some cash. My tyre bill alone is terrible and im not even racing! cheers Ed

£150 a race at Knockhill with the SMRC. Stuart Thorburn used to race a proper racing Exige and it was fairly good until the engine went bang!
As for tyres, we hardly get through tyres at all, we mainly buy used slicks because brand new slicks from Dunlop are way out of our season's budget.

Think it might have been you i was following back from knockhill, i was in one of the clio williams.
Your exige is lovely
Colin
Lack of a garage also plays a big part too. A friend has just bought a caterham and he is planning on taking it racing, which would be ideal. As my car is my only car striping it etc etc perhaps isnt the best idea. Hopefully one day!
Hiya Colin, cheers matey. Yep it was indeed me! Hope your snaps turned out ok!

It is very similar. Steve Davis who I believe owns the Z4MC in Evo seems to be an M car enthusiast and apparently a friend of Richard Meaden of Evo (also owns a E46 CSL)who did the modifications (his includes aero side skirts which mine doesn't) and posted pictures on the BM3W website where I saw it. As well as the CSL wheels and Michelin pilot sports I have had the Z4 OEM strut brace fitted.
I believe there are now a few "clones" around, as Evo say BMW should have made it this way in the first place.
The 19" CSL wheels look a lot better in my view than the standard 18" wheels (and are apparently a bit lighter).
I had a set of 18" M3 wheels (thank you ebay) with pirelli Sottozeros for the winter - doesn't look the same car
