hello guys was thinking of going to do survival am a time served painter and decorator will that help me get a painter and blaster job offshore easier?what sort of pay do you get for doing that line of work
Not really got any firm advice as Iv never been in your position but I think paying for your own courses is a risky one, survival and mist and a maximum I would say. I know quite a few people who have paid for courses and never got a start. From reading various posts on here over the years Id say start of with a good CV and a list of company's like Cape and Stork. If there is nothing advertised then send in your CV with a follow up call. Try and get friendly with their HR and ask what they are looking for. Once they know you ring every week. Id say that painting and decorating is a whole different ball game generally to what goes on out here, but shows you have a skill and can learn. I say go for it.young_bairn said:

Spent 5 days in the office, 3 days on the Dunbar and now on the Alwyn for a 18 days. Considering I've spent the last 5 months rotating out of our office in Aberdeen it's a bit of a shock to the system. Getting home on the 24th and looking forward to a few weeks break (ie DIY and setting the place up for Christmas). Also got my lvl 4 well control for the first time this time off.
Hi guys, can you explain the new rebreather system please, have they done away with the old rebreather EBS completely or is it an add on to the course. I did my bosiet a few years ago and really struggled with the rebreather. Thinking of doing it again as circumstances have changed so might be looking at going offshore. Thanks in advance..

The old rebreather is now gone, presumably forever. The new system is a SCUBA regulator and small cylinder that is integrated into a waistcoat style life jacket. The new system is open circuit not a rebreather so once the cylinder is empty that's it. Most people I've talked to have found it a bit easier to use than the old rebreather but not all (including me!) agree that it is actually better. The mouthpiece on the new system is pretty dreadfully insecure in the mouth. As far as I am aware if you need to do a BOSIET course, or refresher course, then the training is part of the course. If your BOSIET is in date then you probably need to get in touch with any of the training schools who will gladly relieve you of some cash to do the 90 minute training - that's unless an employer will pick up the tab for you.

Has anyone in here been to Angola? Particularly Lobito, Ambriz, Porto Amboim and Malongo (to fly offshore)???
Yeah, 6 years of fun.If you do actually get a visa! then its just even more fun from there. From Luanda you will fly from the airport, with chaotic queues for the operators in the domestic terminal.
From Malongo means a charter/domestic flight to Cabinda, (of which you can also fly offshore from) bus ride to Malongo terminal and then fly from there. But a pre-made security pass will be needed for Malongo.
