Right - partly because I need to make up for the innocent quip about missing the steading, and partly because it is Broomsticklady's birthday soon, I need to find a quality restaurant in the North East.

For various reasons it needs to be open on a Monday night - so far I have tried Eat on the Green, Langleys (Ellon) and Poachers Rest, all of which are closed on Mondays...

Any pointers to somewhere worth going that might be open?

Try the Crynoch at the Lairhillock, fantastic food or if you want something a little less formal the Lairhillcok conservatory is also excellent...

(Edit:Just noticed Crynoch not open on a Monday!)

Cock and Bull very good, been there many times. If you want the city centre then Black Olive, Simpsons and Stage Door are excellent. If you like seafood then Silver Darlings is the best but you'll pay through the nose for it...

Take clients to most of the above on a regular basis so can confirm the quality!

David, If you don't mind travelling a wee bit farther, The Creel at Catterline is first class for seafood - good food, informal ambience, reaonably priced. The memsahib and I eat there regularly and although I don't like recommending rstaurants just in case of an "off night", I don't think you'd go far wrong there. If you're real foodies, don't mind going even farther, and have deep pockets, try Gordon's at Inverkeilor, between Montrose and Arbroath. Top drawer cuisine but not much atmosphere.
Got quite a surprise when I saw the Broomstick up at MH's today as I dropped the R1 off to get the cornerweights done.
Bon appetit!!
