Can anyone recomend someone to service, and do general work on an older Porsche. I live in Tain in the north of Scotland and don't mind traveling witin reason. The car is a 1977 Carrera 3.0. I have had the car for a while now, but the guy I bought it from had it serviced at an official Porsche centre in Glasgow, not long before selling it, and commented to me that due to the age of the car, they were not particularly interested, and in his opinion did not do a great job!! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you are looking for car enthusiasts who do a good job at reasonable prices can't go past JD Motor Engineers in Insch 20miles north of Aberdeen. Tel on 01464 821151 and ask for either Dave or John

I'll second that!

and, as ever, point out that they're right next to the railway station so dropping your car off isn't a big hassle.

Martyn,

Nice car! I have one just like it (see profile)

Had a ton of work done to it in the last couple of years so have some good recommendations for you.

Feel free to drop me an email anytime with any specific areas of interest. I can advise on bodywork, exhaust, heat exchangers, engine rebuild (top end) and general servicing.

This one has only done 35k miles and was beginning to suffer from lack of use. I can safely say it's now driving like new once again!!

I look forward to hearing from you.

James

Brian Millar Motors Edinburgh 0131 4437806.
I know it's a fair bit away from Tain. I used to drop my car off on a Saturday go home by train and pick it up the following Saturday. I can't recommend him highly enough. Central belt OPC's use him when their stuck, I know as I've been there when they've called him.

Seconded. No issues whatsoever in 6 years.

semi Hijack of post, but just to ask about JD motors in Insch. I moved to Insch last year, in fact live on the same road as JD motors and only recently found out them through this site. What sort of kit will the look at, i run an Audi Coupe Quattro was thinking about lettign them tinker with it.

And on the Porsche front, there was a nice orange '69 911 for sale there last month. Never noticed any cars resting outside there. Ricky Gauld in Huntly i had heard good things about too, but i believe he is more of a tuner but has vintage car heritage.

And as an ex-blackisler, nice to see some vintage machinery kicking about.

JDmotors will look at anything and then be honest with you and tell you if they can handle it or not. They won't just take on the job and give you back the car in a worst state than before. I have seen viper, vette, westfield, excel, elise, motorbikes (dave is qualified BMW bike mech) and even a tractor basically anything with engine and at least one wheel. John is an ex Scottish Hillclimb Road Car champion in his Westie and campagined a Mini before that to many class and championship wins and records. Dave built and raced one of the most perfect minis I have ever seen and he is time served mech with BMW his speciality.

Trevor

thanks, like the sound of that, i feel a wander along the road for a natter with them. Want to play with the throttle bodies/ air tract on the car, but i am not 100% sure on what i am doing. Thanks for the feed back, you would never know looking from the outside, that said there is a very high volume of nice cars pass me when i am out cleaning the car, i always assumed it was proximity to the transport museum at Alford.

I think my old boy used to take the Matra Simca to a place in Nairn for servicing. If its the one i see now i think its a clothes shop now. Sorry cant help there. My folks live in the Black Isle, so Insch would be a 2 hour drive for you.
