Applecross - to loop or not to loop

GetCarter,
I know Ardban, which is lovely.
Then there's the small sandy bay about 5 miles or so north of Applecross with the car park just outside a fence with "MOD Property" signs. Can you get onto that beach, or is it MOD stay-off territory? (Or worse, have they done a Gruinard on it?)
What's the third? Applecross bay itself?
John

The MOD place is at Sand - which is completely available to the public... the MOD road leads down to the right, the beach to the left. Ardban is the second, and follow the river downstream from Cuaig to find the third (but only at low tide). Sand is the biggest and at low tide is huge. (I'm there most weekends).

[quote=GetCarter]I just got back from doing the 42 mile loop (in bright sunshine) and didn't see another car [/smug mode] - whilst you're doing the loop, be sure to check out at least one of the three excellent beaches!
What time?! I did it yesterday too in the Maserati. Was looking out for the Aston/Golf/Landi but didn't see it. Will try and get some pics up tonight.

I've just exhumed this as i'm going to the Highlands next week and wondered if this road is worth doing (or even open!) at this time of year?
I did the loop this morning - long walk on the beach then pub lunch at Applecross. It was stunning. (It's tough up here in the Highlands I can tell you). It's always open unless the snow is bad... but I have to say if it's tipping down with rain then its a bit pointless as you won't see anything.
Pics from this a.m.

Wow! <scrabbles for car keys>
I'd realised it was supposed to be impressive but that looks sensational. Thanks for the swift reply. If you see a silver Puma struggling up the hills next week, give us a wave
I'll look out for you... I'm often out in the Silver Golf R32 at this time of year (Aston is a bit of a liability in this weather!)I'd realised it was supposed to be impressive but that looks sensational. Don't do the loop unless you have a view - otherwise it can be a bit tedious. With a view - awesome.
I've done it a couple of times, first time in a Boxster, single car, great weather - absolutely incredible.2nd time in a GT3, multiple cars, reasonable weather - hard work and irritating.
I'd say the same as iterated before - doing it in a convoy is a difficult time, also the car makes a big difference - in the boxster which is an incredibly well balanced and chuckable road car it was great fun, the GT3 had to be wrestled the whole way and it simply wasn't fun.
You've done it right - it's something to do with where they are hosted I think.
It was pretty though wasn't it - heres' some from up the road:
