Had a look but can't see details of how much it is and what times it is on. Any ideas?

It says it's on between the 7th and 13th of August. I'm guessing every day. As for prices - confused

So how did you get on? I was rubbish smile

Very short and tight - someone who does autotests would do well.

Sadly I was there at about 11am on Friday and the track was damp in places (especially around the figure of 8 section). Didn't get any demo laps either just 1 sighting lap in the MX-5 then 1 hotlap in the MX-5 followed by a hotlap in the RX-8. Would have been good to have been given a demo lap by one of the pros.

Did a 24.7 in the MX-5 first (lost at least 1 second due to a big slide in the figure of 8) then did a 24.1 in the RX-8. Instructor said I would have been in the high 23's if it had been fully dry. Wish I had been a bit more aggressive with the start but I showed a lot of mechanical sympathy which probably cost me some time as well.

Apparently my 24.1 was the quickest he had seen so far but the track was drying out so I imagine people will have gone faster later in the day on Friday. Not sure what the weather was like in Glasgow on Saturday / Sunday as I went down to Newcastle for the weekend. Looking forward to seeing the results go up but I imagine mid to low 23's will be needed for a top 4 place.

I went on Saturday and it was bucketing down, but was quite pleased with the times on a drenched track, 25.3 in the MX5, 26.1 in the RX8.

Sunday dry track - a pathetic 26 secs, rolling start was a bit off putting. Really wanted a few more laps in the MX5 as i was impressed with how well the car felt.

Yeah the rolling start was weird as I was only at about 2,500 rpm in 1st by the time I had to change to 2nd at the start line. Should probably have dialled in 5,000 RPM and slipped the clutch but the "mechanical sympathy" box on the score card made me wary of doing so. Really made the start feel very slow.

I was very impressed by the RX8 having never driven one - the handling was very predictable. Was unsure about the MX5 though as it seemed a bit unpredictable on the limit on the damp sections - it under steered a bit on entry to the hairpin so I trail braked slightly into the last corner which really unsettled the back and meant I couldn't get on the power early enough to set a decent time in it.

AMD87: Looking at the videos you posted I think you lost a bit of time in the last corner as well by taking it to tight. When you exited the corner there was a lot of track to your right which you didn't use.

As you said I would have liked to have a few laps in each as I'm sure once you learnt the limits of the cars you could knock quite a bit off the laptimes. Its hard to just jump in a car you have never driven before on a very tight unfamiliar circuit with no run off areas and set a quick lap. Good fun though and a big thumbs up to Mazda for doing something a bit different. Would like to see more manufacturers doing events like this.

25.05 in the MX-5 and 25.35 in the RX-8,looks like it might have been the first time they were out with the track being fully dry though,i stayed till around half 2 and the fastest time i had seen from a pro driver in that time was a 21.17 in an MX-5,RX-8's seemed to be slower though, maybe abit too tight for them?

21.17 is very very quick for that circuit even with a lot of practice would loved to have been in the car when that was set! Wonder if they were using 1st gear a little bit for this?

Yeah my instructor did say he thought the MX5 was ultimately quicker on that course but I set my best time in the RX8 and he said that most people went quicker on their 2nd hot run even if that was in the RX8 due to knowing the course a bit better.
