CP Garage Services in Dundee?
He's the local Alfa/Fiat specialist but looks after plenty of other exotic stuff. Maybe worth a chat anyway.

Can recommend Mercedes Car Specialists (also inc. BMW Car Specialists) in Ibrox Business Park, Glasgow. Carried out some work on my C-Class at half the cost of the main dealer - used pukka Merc parts and have the proper diagnostic software to update/reset onboard computer etc. Friendly service and you get to speak with the person working on your car rather than a clueless main dealer service advisor.

Anyone know of anybody good for Fiats in Edinburgh?
Recently bought a 20vt coupe and I'd like to look after it!

Tynecastle garage have always done a good job with my shopping shed, and very reasonably priced for a city centre outfit.

Go to www.fccuk.org/forum and have a search.
I think there's a couple of recommended ones towards Glasgow.

[quote=ModenaMagic]MP Supercars provide a superb service and the two guys who run it are excellent to deal with. They are based in Cockenzie and not Mussleburgh that I saw in an earlier post, opposite Cockenzie Power Station.

Edgefield Coachbuilders, Loanhead, Edinburgh. They love to get their hands on decent cars as they do a fantastic job. Andy, the owner will not let the car out the shop until he is totally satisfied with the work.

Is there a forum where one can cite named firms where the experience has been particularly poor. If valued opinion which benefits members and a level playing field of experiences is to be gained then I see no reason why there should only be a one sided forum.

I am not talkng about having a moan because something was less than perfect but using the platform as a warning as to what might happen and cause real distress / loss / and the like.

Hi,

While PH does not wish any naming and shaming, I shall refrain from actually naming them. Suffice to say that I gave them my porsche to undertake a full resortation job, (2 years ago this month) paid them several thousand pounds in advance and they have not finished the job. Nor can they give a completion date or a fixed price to complete the balance of work.

I have spent over £14,000 thus far and have no vehicle so the point of this is to ask if anyone can recommend a truly reliable firm who would be happy to finish a restoration job in a professional and businesslike manner within say the next 1 to 2 months. The interior and bodywork has been completed and it's now pristine (I mentioned David Brown of Whitburn on an earlier posting who was 1st class) and thus require a 1st recommendation as regards finishing the mechanics/electrics.

I would appreciate a firm either in or to the west of Edinburgh as any recommendation in East Lothian is likely to be the very firm that can't finish a job in two years and are now trying to get me to pay even more as an on account advance with no agreed end price and no commitment on when they'll complete. The problem is they have grown since I gave them some start up cash and are now more interested in working on a Ferrari or Koenigsegg than finishing a 25 year old Porsche.

Many thanks.

Not a recommendation for someone to do the work, but the cars in Kenny Dunn at the top of Roseburn Street always look immaculate. Time spent chatting to the guys in there is unlikely to be wasted. (Although they may try to get you to part with cash for a newer porsche!)

Hi,

Many thanks for the tip. It may come to approaching them for some advice.

Meanwhile, I have come accross a couple of firms, one in Edinburgh and one in West Lothian who seem to have an excellent reputation. This has gone leagl so I'll refrain for the time being from more detailed comment on the outcome until after the matter is settled.

It's a true saying :- Caveat Emptor!

A big thumbs up for Brian Miller of Edinburgh. Cheap rates and a knowledgeable and friendly chap to boot. Although a Porsche specialist, he knows his way round most things German.

I'll second that. I used to take my 911 to him rather than use the official dealers here in Aberdeen.

Surprised no-one's mentioned Ronnie Weaver for BMW in Cathcart, Glasgow. More than happy with the work he did for me, and he seems to get good reviews.

Hi All,

For those in the west of Scotland, I've used this company in the past and they deal in all types of classics cars from Ford model T's up to present day Aston's, Ferrari's etc

Waterside Classics,
3 Alleysbank Road,
Farmeloan Estate'
Rutherglen,
Glasgow,
0141 647 0333.

David Reid is the guy to speak to.

www.watersideclassics.com

I've also used Coatech in Carnoustie to get wheels powder coated for a TVR Chimaera and Nick at Kustomcraft exhausts in Elgin made me a very nice stainless exhaust for a TVR M series turbo. Both did a superb job.

For those with TVR's and willing to travel a little bit further then a new place to try is X Works Services, Ribby Hall garage, Kirkham, Lancashire. Both Heath Briggs and Paul Forrest are ex TVR employees.

Heath Briggs 07969 454703
Paul Forrest 07912 936505

Both are very helpful and undertake all types of TVR work ranging from servicings to chassis and outrigger repairs.
