Anyone know of any decent, honest and more importantly, CHEAP garages in Aberdeen? I need some work to be done on an oldish Merc (2001) and the dealers is doing the usual multiple of £500 approach.

See 'JD Motors Thread'. The train station is on there doorstep and they are cheap and very good.

Alan J Ross motor engineer is excellent, has looked after my FTO for about the last 7 years and there are often all sorts of weird and wonderful motors in for work.

Dunno how many times I've been asked if I know of a garage like you desribed, by people new to Aberdeen... I asked the question a few times myself initially, and nobody seemed to know!

JD in Insch have had a number of glowing write-ups, so it's probably where I will be going next time. I would love to find a place city center though, but had no real luck so far, especially when it comes to any kind of performance car.

Thanks Gents - the nearest to the office is the service station in Westhill but they seem to be very pricy at the mo.

Westhill Service Station is pretty good, I would say rates are reasonable and much cheaper than some places (Main dealers, did the wife's timing belt for a fraction of the cost quote in ABZ).

An alterantive is these guys http://www.firstdrivecars.co.uk
I have yet to use them (Mainly due to not getting a suitable slot) but a few guys at work use and highly recommend them, their rates are low and work is top quality.

I've found Carden Motors in Broomhill Road very decent/pleasant, honest, and reaonably priced.
They're officially a small Honda garage but do my old Merc no problem. They will also actually try to fix things rather than just replace parts automatically, which has been good for me in the past.
Highly recommended.

Carden Motors did work on the oil coolers of my Esprit. Certainly seemed to know what they were doing and were nice and friendly to deal with.

I use Stuart Mitchell Vehicle Repairs in East Tullos - Stuart's a top guy, very honest and a real grafter. They don't advertise much but don't need to - that's the best thing I can say really.
