Agreed - it takes skill to catch something like that with that much gee gee power... Gizmo will confirm...

Not Fergus' car.

I think the owner(s) do indeed tow it with a BMW - silver or metallic grey IIRC.

Cheers,

I was on my way home from Knockhill also with car on trailer and he passed me in Dundee, then we passed each other a few times on the road to Aberdeen.

Ah - you must have passed Roger (in a BJ transporter so anonymous - or should that be anonymous-e with the Pink Mouse on the back...) on the Friarton Bridge - just before we dived off thru Coupar!

Craig said he experimented with taking the dip flat in the wet and that going up East Brae backwards was interesting....

And there was me thinking coming down East Brae was the scariest thing about Doune - maybe I should try backwards next year ...

From a purely personal point of view!

The Good...

The venue!! Superb, well organised, a real challenge to drive.

Lots of exciting battles resolved, like the Road Car Division and big saloon class.

The Predator running – even if to retire with a broken gear – at least it started!!

Mr Mutch Senior beating Mr Mutch Junior.

The Broomstick being returned to its rightful owner quite happy with his passengers for the weekend, and with said passengers being impressed with Broomstick!

The Bad ...

The catering!! £1.50 for a cup of tea, £4.80 for a cardboard burger and chips!! No veggie burgers!!

The weather!! (Even that comes second in the bad stakes to the catering!!)

The unexplained manner in which 9 cars (marque and historic classes) were deprived of an acclimatising practice on the Sunday morning. OK, it was unofficial practice, but given the dramatic change in conditions from the Saturday, in my humble opinion depriving these cars of their practice (which would have taken max 15 minutes) due to the treacherous conditions (?) actually made it more dangerous for those drivers than had they been allowed to practice. And it’s not as if time was that tight – 20 minutes was spent on a presentation, and then we had over a hour for lunch – go figure!!

The Ugly ...

David!! His wet time of 60.27 was dangerously close to my best wet time!! Tho' he did have brand new wet tyres, which he and Mike Jolly were raving about!! Methinks I have to raise my game for next year!!

Well what can I say? Have to agree with some of what the Broomstick Lady says however I must offer an alternative view to some of the opinions she expressed:

1) The venue - it isn't good it is magnificent. The best hillclimb course in Great Britain in my opinion.

2) The organisation - in appalling conditions on Sunday the organisational team and the marshals all deserve recognition for a job very well done.

3) The catering - if people are silly enough to rely on on-site catering then they deserve to eat cardboard burger & chips! Anyway a bit of roughage never hurt anyone!

4) Now for the cutting back on the FIFTH practice run on Sunday. The weather on Saturday was maybe not as bad throughout the day but it did rain quiet hard at times. There was ample opportunity for the drivers in the Marque & Historic classes to have sampled the wet track but many opted out of the wet fourth practice. On Sunday after a serious accident in which a front wheel was torn off one of the racing cars. The organisers, in my opinion, took the right decision to curtail the FIFTH practice run in favour of starting the timed runs and getting the meeting back onto schedule.

5) The Presentation - the presentation that took place was to recognise the tremendous work done over many decades by Fraser Madder. The reason that the time for the presentation was outside of the lunch break was that ALL the marshals wanted to be there to honour this stalwart of Scottish motorsport and they too deserve to be watered & fed.

Despite the weather I thoroughly enjoyed the week-end and will hope to be back next year - possibly for all three week-ends at Doune.

Oh and I think including the Broomstick's alternative driver in the ugly is a tad harsh!

And there was me trying not to be seen as too 'Ecosse-phile'! I think if we remove your "in my opinion" we agree!! Just "The best hillclimb course in GB fullstop!!"

Scary - having to agree twice - with a man ... What is the world coming to?!

That's better - a semi disagree! It wasn't so much the cardboard burger, it was the price of said cardboard burger! I don't mind paying that price for something edible, but if it's going to be along the quality of worse than Asda Value, then please, the prices should reflect it!!

At last - a 100% disagree!! It was 9 cars who were deprived of their Sunday acclimitisation practice, who, barring accidents, would have taken a maximum of 15 minutes to complete their runs. Yes, it would have been a fifth run, but at the Scottish venues this isn't so unusual. The conditions were so different on Sunday that to deprive these few drivers of their run defies explanation to me - had it been 20 or more, I could maybe have understood, but 9? Yes, the conditions had worsened, but they quickly improved, only to deteriorate again - that is the nature of the beast when it comes to Doune. Because one of the racing cars had an incident does not mean panic knee jerk reaction should occur, which is what I think this was. If it was really felt conditions were so bad, then could the event not have been paused? Or if they were so bad, why was it safe to send the road cars up for timed runs? Sorry, Sunday's decision really doesn't compute!!

I have no problenm at all in the honouring of Fraser - I think I was in fact the first person to greet him when he arrived, and made a point of 'welcoming him home', as that is to me what Doune is to Fraser.

I am also the first to argue that marshalls should not cannot be taken for granted - indeed on these very hallowed pages of PH I have taken people to task when they have enquired why an event could not have run thru without giving the marshalls a break. I do think however, that no-one would have objected to a slightly shorter lunch break to give the 9 cars affected their chance to experience the wet conditions.

Mr Sprintman - if you're not at Doune next year there will be questions asked in the House as to why not!! You are a fixture and fitting, a veritable requirement!!

Maybe harsh - but true!! 60.27 indeed!!

Edited to sort out quoting of quoting of quoting!!

The conditions were so different on the Sunday morning than those on Saturday. If it was me that was deprived of my sunday practice then words would have been spoken to the officials. It wasn't fully wet on saturday so to have those cars leave the line on Sunday for their competition run without knowing how much grip there was is worrying. Perhaps a PH'er from that batch could give their views on what happened?

I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, even though i didn't achieve what i set out to do - beat david to get the extra point I needed to win the Road car Division! Ah well, that's Motorsport!

Another video on Youtube if anyone wants an 'in-evo' look at Doune but there's no sound... Should have checked this before I left the line, Oops!
