[ I am thinking about selling the coupe and getting a 330ci, also considering keeping the coupe and getting a coupe as well, enter the three car dilema!

Don't waste yor money on a BMW. If you want rear wheel drive get an old Escort Mk2/Sunbeam or if that's to old for you how about a cheap MX5 import.

Loads of oversteer fun without any pain.

i need four seats and something with airbags... the TT doesn't qualify as a proper coupe for me. Shame Audi have nothing newer that A fits the coupe bill or is B within budget.

MX5 is a hoot though i must agree.

If i was getting it all my own way i would be looking at an S6plus or a 100S coupe. But the wife gave me the death stare when i suggested either. However i have approval for a classic next year, so i will perhaps pick your brains then wink And it does pain me to sell the coupe, she goes tonight to a lad from Aberdeen who has had 3 Series 3's and a GT... small tear shed, its been a great car.

Additionally there are also the SIDC track days which are well organised and quite disciplined and not limited to Evo-Scoobs. There are usually a couple of instructors on hand to give those with less experience of trackdays / Knockhill some confidence –boosting (and free?) tuition.

I think there’s one later this month
The Sidc track day is on the same day (24th of November) but it is in the afternoon. 12 to 4pm
i am def going to go along to that on sat. is it on the knockhill website? i cant seem to find it.

It's only the Knockhill organised events that appear on their own website - any circuit hire by clubs isn't listed there.

Next Saturday there's two events - a beginners track day in the morning, and our one from 12 - 4 (now full up with a reserve list). Almost all drivers are happy to take out passengers (just ask them nicely smile). Just sign on as a passenger in the helmet store on the pit lane, and bring your own helmet if you have one. You can hire them from Knockhill if you don't own one.

feedback is overwhelming guys much appreciated!
I did take the sensible option in the end and now have a 2.5tdi quattro sport A4. kind of ticks all the sensible boxes and is actually not bad when you push it. so next questions tdi's on a track? or is that a laughable one?

I've have seen a very slow and very clean Mk3 escort wandering round a trackday so a TDi will be fine.

BUT the thing that most commonly causes hassle on a road car taken on the track is the brakes so be careful with them as they will quickly turn into a soggy faded mess.

Come along to an SIDC day and you will see high standard of driving

wandering around smile that will be me, i could be the track squid beltching out some black stuff. the passenger bit appeals to me a lot, i wouldn't mind tagging along on the next available event. If it requires singing up or membership willing to do that too.

I've seen a Discovery on track at Knockhill.
Fair to say it was leaning a bit in the corners... biggrin

I've also been round the 'Ring in the back seat of a Range Rover Sport Diesel. We did a fairly respectable 11 min ?secs (BtG), despite the torrential rain...

We've had two TDi cars on track with us over the years. Neither caused any issues with speed differential, and indeed the BMW surprised a couple of people with it's legs on the long straights!

i am angling at the comedy value, but it shouldn't be too slow, its the operator i fear for. I just fancy trying it. 535d, modified will have silly amounts of torque.

OK will watch for the next dates coming up...
