Noticed in yesterdays local paper that ADMC are proposing a special stage for next years Granite City Rally that will take in the Greyhope Road / St. Fitticks road circle round Girdleness Lighthouse.

This would be a fantastic spectator stage, cliffs and railings one side, golf course on the other.

Lets hope the City Council get the neccessary legal approvals for what would be a spectacular sight.

Isn't there a problem about the council needing to spend £50000 and they are not willing to spend that kind of money ?

As far as the "cooncil" worried about spending £50000... how much would be spent by those coming in to see such a spectacle.... now I know the city faithers are not renowned for their largess with the public purse but even this shower of jester could make this a money making event for the city

This was talked about when I was a member of ADMC in the early 90's. I thought closing the road for the rally wasn't the problem, it's the Road Traffic Act.

When the road is closed the RTA isn't suppended so Minster Plod could come and 'monitor' the standard and speed of driving. If I remember correctly it's a 30mph zone around there, so any rally car that goes faster than that could be done for speeding or what about the charge of racing on a public road?

That's one of the reasons why the Jim Clarke Rally took years and thousands of pounds to get an Act of Parliment passed so they could close the roads around Duns and suppend the RTA.

I hope its tarmac as I remember the Torry gravel stage from the early/mid 90's & it was PI$$ poor. If it wasn't run in a tip it sure looked like it.

Unfortunately, this Stage will not form part of the 2008 Granite City Rally. This is due to the lengthy legislative process known as 'Westminister'! However, we are still on track (as it were) to run in 2009. In some ways, this may prove a better option as the club will also be celebrating its' 100th Birthday! We'll keep you posted on developements.
