Can anyone reccommend a mechanic in Aberdeen locality to replace the clutch on the G.Fs car. Mechanic that has had a look at it can not do it as I belive the engine may have to come outeek but not sure.

Try Alan Ross Motor Engineers on Ashley Park lane, just had my Rover 75 clutch done by him (not the same I know) but he really knows his stuff and works on all my other cars. give him a call and he'll tell you if the engine needs to come out or not.....

Cheers Des, but not too sure that if he is used to having the likes of your Ferrari gracing his workshop that the GFs battle scarred P reg oiler might be taking the mick,

Only had my Fezza in there once for its MOT, knows a bit about the type as he used to look after Ricky Simpsons Testarossa but wont touch anything he's not comfortable with.

He's looked after my FTO since it arrived in the country (back in about 2000) when they really werent very common, the previous owner swore by him so i kept taking it back. Service has always been excellent and now he gets all my cars, obviously not the Fezza for servicing and stuff though.

Always lots of different motors in there (beat up 4x4's, fiesta's etc up to porsches & lotus) so he'll happily sort your Rover!

Engine out?? Err, you can just drop the subframe. It gives you enough clearance to get the box split from the engine and the new clutch assembly in and alinged (though you do that with your fingers, not the spline tool. No space)

Seriously, if he's pulling the engine out, he's doing it the hard way.

I'm down in the Lanarkshire area, so if you were closer, then yeah, no problem. It's been 10 years + since I made my living as a mechanic, but I still keep my hand in/have a fully equipped double workshop and all that.

I can't believe everyone wants to pull the lot out for a clutch change. If the flywheel was scored and needed a skim then fine, you can't get the space to change that in situ, but not for just a clutch assembly.
