Just wondering if my joining experience is usual:

Downloaded the forms, filled them in, wrote out a cheque, sent it all off.

Eventually received an envelope with a wee cardboard membership card. Handwriten, no other information or anything.confused

By contrast, at the same time I did a similar application to join the "Locust Enthusiasts" club, and received a proper (Windscreen Ice Removing Grade)Plastic membership card, a wee letter welcoming me to the club with a list of useful websites, and a copy of the previous quarters newsletter. One week later they sent the current newsletter.

Somehow I had expectations that given the long standing and exposure of ADMC that a little more in the way of acceptance would have been forthcoming.
Somebody said that I can get everything off the ADMC website. But, if I have to join by post then I would expect some welcome pack by post.
Maybe I'm just getting old and crusty.irked

I have ben a member of ADMC for a number of years and while you may be correct about the lack of a welcome pack etc, I would ask you to reserve your overall assesement of the club until you have taken part in some of their events.

The enthusiasm of the club officials and the manner in which they run events far outweighs the lack of a welcome pack.

Does this get me a few extra points in the club championship ? wink

Have been a member of various of the sprint / hillclimb clubs in Scotland for a few years now - some I'm still a member of, some I've lapsed with. These have included East Ayrshire, Lothian, ADMC, GAC and I'm sure some others which have slipped my (old) memory! Also a couple of marque clubs - Ginetta and BMW Drivers Club.

Of these, the only one which sent a welcome pack of the type you describe was EACC. Most of the 'local', as opposed to national, are run by very few dedicated individuals, who all put in a lot of effort, but the direction of that effort lies in different areas, if you're with me. I have to agree with my learned friend the CT and say like a book, judge ADMC not by its cover, but by its content!!

It's actually one of the more active clubs of which I am a member - yesterday for example some members (less than 10) were down planting 150 rowan and willow trees near Stonehaven to offset the club's carbon footprint!! (Tho if I'd known it was rowan they were planting I'd never have supported them - where's a witch 'sposed to fly if people keep planting rowans - I ask you!!)

Let us know how you feel after a years membership!!

Thanks all, don't get me wrong. I'm well aware of the wide ranging choice of events organised by the ADMC. Just thought it odd not to get a simple letter enclosed basically saying "welcome to the club and hope to see you at some of our events" I actually wondered if something similar was meant to be enclosed, but was overlooked for some reason.

Take your point and if you're not at the forthcoming AGM (2 Feb) I'll raise it for you!!

Hi Im Janet - ADMC Club Secretary - I can only apologise for this. We are currently overhauling quite a few areas of the club - and welcome packs being one of them. Please contact me and I will personally ensure we get on back on the right track (sorry about the pun!!!!)
