Thanks for the contributions so far for the map. It is not listed publicly, so you will need to contact me if you want a copy.

As regards our police man, he has had many bikes and an R32 golf, and I can testify (wrong word to use probably), that he knows all the good routes that I have been using over the years. Like the rest of us, a lot of these traffic guys are petrolheads too. That said, he always says that his job as a copper was to deter people from speeding in preference to catching people speeding - a pretty fair view.
Is there anything on the west coast??

Its a bit sparse for good driving roads down this way frown

A good potential route is to leave from Inverness, travel over the Kessock bridge along the A9, down to Dingwall (to the Tore Roundabout) and then across to Ullapool. Up to Lochinver and all the way up to Durness, across to Thurso, over to Wick and then back down to Inverness.
Fantastic scenery and some challenging twisty roads.

northo, How do you add the different types of placemarks (with the different icons - photos, hotels etc etc)? All I get the option of is the usual tear-drop shaped markers.

When you are in edit mode just click on the symbol, and it will give you a selection to choose from.

Don't know if this is part of the knackering you mention, or just a limitation of the google maps interface:

Only the 200 items shown in the left column are shown on the map at any time, regardless of where you are viewing. It means if you zoom in on a section, placemarks for that section might not actually be shown because its not within the 200 search results. To me that's a pain in the ar*e!

Pity there's not a way to filter them as per type - in the way you would POI's in TomTom etc.

A while ago I registered the domain www.b-road.co.uk with something like this in mind. We could work together to put something simple on here? I could get server space, we could do something great.

Left 10 years ago to go to uni, then seem to have gradually worked my way South with each job/house since!

Northo, I'll try to add my placemarks onto the new version.
