Strangely enough...

Was driving in A90 from Ellon, as I was passing a 4x4, the passenger rear wheel came off it and overtook the car (almost like a cartoon). There was a few kids in the car too but the driver held onto it and stopped safely. Could have been a bad one....

Check your wheel nuts after 50 miles of having the wheels off. Back in '92 I had the discs and pads done on my Scooby, and after 500 miles a wheel fell off. I thought I had a flat for 30 miles until the wheel fell off on the Edinburgh City Bypass.

I had a wheel come off my race car trailer on the M8 (a long time ago now) The trailer used mini 10" wheels and the holes for the studs had opened out (usually caused by overtighteneing the wheel nuts) eventually wearing through the studs causing the failure. Interesting to see the wheel overtaking me before the trailer (4 wheel) sagged down a bit on that side and started rubbing on the road. No drama just moved onto the hard shoulder and got out to stop my erant wheel as it passed me again (I think it had had a trip up the embankment and back down again!)

Someone came driving past me as I was walking the dog recently, on a flat space saver

Not quite. Was driving along, and felt a slight vibration coming from the car, so I stopped and checked the tyres - all ok. Continued to drive, vibration continued - stopped and checked vehicle. Wheel nuts are finger tight. Continued to drive, vibrations suddenly become much worse, no hard shoulder to pull in to, so I slow down and try to find a place to pull of the road. Wheel comes off car. To put it in context, I was a 20 year old student at the time.

Was driving round the roundabout again yesterday, where I saw the wheel came off and there is a huge pothole jus before where the car was stranded. I'm pretty sure that played a key role in the incident
