Police have a new toy
Discussion
Scots law usually works with 2 credibal eye witnesses (yes 2 police officers do count as a pair of "credible" witnesses ) or one witness and circumstantial evidence.
Some Road Traffic Law can work with only one witness but to be honest all traffic cars have onboard cameras so that will effectively be the second witness.
I don't mind them doing what they have to do but once I got pulled over on Wholeflats Road beside Rohm Haas and BP in Grangemouth to be accused of using my mobile phone when it was in the house charging. Can't say I was much of a fan of the traffic after that. Especially seeing as how his parting comment was "don't do it again" which translated meant "oops I appear to have made an error but I certainly can't own up to it and say sorry".
But some of them might be a bit more reasonable. Can't tar them all.

The only time I've been pulled over was 12 years ago, when I just passed my test, for 44 in a 30 zone.
Obviously a much deserved ticket, but I was a bit wet round the ears, and in the back of their car asking questions like "Does this mean I'll have a criminal record?", etc. They could obviously see I was sh*tting myself (I was!), and they were very decent.
My friend was spotted using his mobile while stopped at a red light at Helen St (great place to do it!), and had put it down by the time the lights had changed. That caused an unmarked car to do a u-turn and chase him down the M8 to issue a FPN.
Anyone got a pic of the silver BMW? Or even better know the reg? I'm fed up with the number of mobile vans and unmarked cars cropping up in and around Edinburgh. I wonder why they're increasing? Is it because they're taking hundreds of thousands of pounds from us every year for doing 35 in a 30 so can afford brand new BMWs to covertly catch us? At least play the game BiBs
Rant over, apologies.

It's a 07 plate im sure. Salon version. Just use your mirors and you will be fine Sir.Rant over, apologies.
Sounds daft, but I think making up acronyms with the last 3 letters of unmarked car plates helps a lot. If you spot a unmarked car, spend a few moments making a acronym up (eg, SL77 BSD = Better Slow Down, etc). Sounds silly, but next time you spot that discrete silver 3-series, if you've spent a minute or so coming up with a acronym, it'll jump out at you.
The scamera vans are more of a problem anyway. From what I've heard, unmarked cars are more looking out for dangerous driving, rather than just speeding, and will rarely "de-cloak" for less than 90 on a motorway. Looking out for them makes the drive more interesting, and there's always the hope that they pull over the tailgating fool behind you.
I think the vans can only work from designated "mobile sites" though, and not just park up anywhere. Most camera partnerships post these in advance online, and a good GPS detector will remind you on approaching these sites.

Is it true that in Scotland, there has to be 2 officers in the car before they can prosecute for something
In scotland, yesGot to the 'new' Morrisons lights in Dundee to spot blue lights behind me - changed lanes to let them by and realised they didn't want to come by, they wanted me!!
I'd been doing 85 in the 70 coming down the hill into Dundee, which is probably about right, which they'd got on Vascar, but they also told me I'd been doing 60 in the 40 which started at the Toyota roundabout which they didn't - fortunately for me - have on Vascar. Obviously they'd tried to tho, cos in doing so they'd lost the Vascar footage of my 85. I got off scot free on both counts, apart from the obvious warning, which had the word of 2 officers been sufficient I wouldn't have done.
They did have a sense of humour tho - the parting shot was "it's your lucky day - buy a lottery ticket!!"

Is it not illegal to take deliberately take pics of the poline now, or is that just in England? I'm not saying folk shouldn't take pics (I think we need to keep an eye on the polis as much as possible), I'm just wondering...
What police? Personally, I think that's a cracking photo of an HGV. Looks like a Renault Premium? Check out that 26t box, Privilege Cab, Double sleeper, rear lifting axle, 8 speed gearbox, Rear shutter door.. omg! Gassing Station | Scotland | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
