I have not been pulled over since i was 18, some 12 years ago however I got pulled over the other day by a marked X5, I pulled over and jumped out straight away and he mentioned it was to do with my licence plate not having the correct spacing. M4T DA should have been M4 TDA. I kept my mouth shut the whole time and didnt even look at the guy. I have had police officers ask to sit in the car and get photos etc, not batting an eyelid about the registration plate because they KNOW there are far more serious offences out there that actually warrant pursuing. My text style was correct, it was only that the T was 10mm out.

I have a lot of respect for the police and have no qualms about marked or unmarked cars but PC M HYND, GET A LIFE YOU NUGGET AND SHOVE YOUR 30 QUID UP YOUR IDIOTIC TIME WASTING BUTT!
Seems they realised they could have been doing more serious things and let me off, I have nothing against the Police, everything but however I think they should be chasing the wee neds flying about on their 300 DB Quads, rapists, speeders etc etc etc etc. I do respect them but this time I was slightly miffed. If I had been speeding or driving wrecklessly, faor enough but i dont or hadnt been.

I work for a company that make up number plates for the police and they ask for number plates that are illegal, you have to have the company postcode at the bottom of the plate now and the police ask for them to be removed for there under cover cars so you dont know where the car comes from lol so if u get stopped again check there plates and make sure it has the postcode on there plate.

POT KETTLE BLACK, you think they could make a sebtince out of this lol

I have not read the whole thread so apologies if it has been said but is it not just the normal police cars without markings. So white A3 and Merc estates or navy and silver ones.

As soon as targets are introduced this all falls apart, if figures and stats are low then its either A police doing a sterling job or B understaffed/ cants cope. i would love it to be A so we don't need to keep daft stats to please civil servants and politicans, look we are getting better.

Although that would pain me as well, i have always want german style plates for my car but being me I know I would get pulled.

As for unmarked cars, they should stay to unknown. I am going out on a limb and guess the unmarked guys would only pull you if you were VERY stupid. If the same cars are used to protect us from the scum then good, i would rather not known to be honest.

Monaro, are you being serious here? I mean the postcode that goes on the plates is the postcode of the supplier right? So you are saying the police will think that by putting the motor factor's postcode on the plate every skally will know that it must be an unmarked car?

As far as CID cars are concerned, the twin aerial is usually the giveaway to me. If you are talking unmarked traffic cars, well if you are close enough to see the postcode on the plate, you will also see the cameras, the video screen and more than likely 2 police officers behind the wheel!

But even still; a roofbox? c'mon for chrissakes.

Saying that, Grampian Traffic Polis have a metallic blue X-type estate complete with GB stickers and a roof rack.

I have to say that with my experience of regularly travelling through a number of police force areas I would say that Strathclyde and Lothian & Borders are the most 'sympathetic' and fair minded. Central and Grampian are sneaky, target fixated stes.

ETA: Did I just see an advert for Basshunter on Pistonheads? FFS what has this place come to......

Agreed, i've had the blues once on an quiet A road round my way; went through all the usual; tax, insured etc etc, what kind of pace is that to be going at? Then we got onto is it modified, and is it declared, to which i declared i have a print out of each and every modification on the car which happens to be on insurance headed paper (In my politest possible terminology). The driver of the car then pipes up "Must be quite nippy then eh?"; to which the other officer snaps in "Don't come it, you said yourself you could never have caught that Fu*kin honda if there was no traffic".

Tone of conversation lightened off a bit then and i left scot free after about half an hours banter with the boys.

IIRC an undercover car can be chopped an changed within regions, usually after about 2-3 years in use (So not to make the car common knowledge)

Speaking of fairness, I have to agree with Strathclyde being relatively fair. It's quite rare to see camera vans here, although I think they're a little more common towards Motherwell/Hamilton area? As for the Glasgow area, I can't recall ever seeing one in this neck of the woods.

Even over at Loch Lomond, where a lot of people head for a little bit of spirited driving, it's sensibly policed. There's the spot at Tarbet where they like to hide with a speedgun - but that's a 30 zone with lots of pedestrian activity on the pavements, and fair game as far as I'm concerned.

Not as if they'd give it some beans to join in catch up with a Pistonheads convoy over there.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyDslwLChvc&fea...smile

That's my neck of the woods, and I'll be honest - never seen one parked up doing a trade! Only ever seen them stuck in traffic on the M8 or heading towards the Police base opposite Govan ASDA - oh, and on Rannoch Moor - but that might be more Northern Constabulary? hehe

As for unmarkeds, in Strathclyde isn't the extra aerial, pair of mirrors, pair of coppers and SF** plate a bit of a giveaway? hehe Every private plate I've seen using blue lights has turned out to be a Fire Officer or Paramedic, on closer inspection. Not saying this holds true everywhere, just in my experience.

Type-R what? Civic? Accord?

I'm local to that neck of the woods and don't fancy a tug...

Scamera van is now a regular sight on the A9.

The usual Daviot brae heading to Inverness.

After Tomatin heading to Perth just after the bridge heading uphill.

The layby at the German's Head near carrbridge turnoff.

And between Moy and Tomatin.

Although the A9 was busy today with folks heading to Perth for rallying.

Thankfully I was going the other way laugh

Guys I stand corrected but find it extremely doubtful that the police would be using a 3 door Civic Type R as an unmarked car?

Surely it would need to be 4/5 door to make it operational? Can hardly ask folk to climb into the back of their car can they?

Unless its not police - some other service maybe?

There's also a dark grey 5 series.

Gave themselves away on the forth bridge when they attended an incident on a stagecoach bus.
