Was chatting to a well informed friend ( not a cop) last night about the evangelical persecution of speeders of late by the traffic and scamera vans.
Allegedly there are significant internal politics ongoing as a consequence of which traffic in all forms need to raise revenue, significantly.
That may explain the number of unmarked cars and the current zealous pursuit of speeders.

Nothing wrong with enforcing the law. It is there to be obeyed. The concern is that if part of society or members of particular groups are targeted to a significantly greater degree than others, that that group may feel vitimised and feel justified in their non observance of the law. Also pursuit of easy low level offending at the expense of higher level more difficult offenses undermines confidence in our police and system of justice. ?Both are needed for a civilized society.

I know there are lots of cops on here, including traffic cops. They need to follow orders. No issue with that either. Perhaps they can confirm what is happening? If not communicate these concerns upwards , if anyone ' up there' wants to listen!

Anyone heard of anything new as they more than likely will have fresh budgets to spend after 01/04/12??

Was going in the M8 to HGT then round the bypass yesterday, just as that van was on fire at M8 J2.

Coming the other way (after 2 fire appliances) were 3 unmarked motors with blue lights, with about a mile between them:

2 silver Volvos (V70 estate style, at least 1 was the Cross Country style)
1 silver 5 series estate.

Think the 5er and the XC were 61 plates, and I can't remember which was SF61 UAY ish.

I was surprised that 3 unmarked cars were able to get to the westbound M8 from Edinburgh in what can only have been 10 minutes notice, max!

Interesting. I saw a dark green 5 series on the M74 near to Larkhall which had pulled someone.

Obviously a busy day on the M74 yesterday!

It was on the M74 before or after the Larkhall exit.

They wouldn't be stupid enough to take a green car through Larkhall, would they.... scratchchin

If the police were really to 'think outside of the box', a chav'd up Corsa and PCs wearing baseball caps etc would be far more stealth...

Ironically, unmarked cars seems to stand out a mile...

I thought I would just report that on early hours of Sunday morning while making my way back to the Borders from girlfriends in Edinburgh I turned off at Carfrae Mill hotel and was heading down the Coldstream road. Roads were very quiet and I was nipping on when I saw lights in the distance which I caught quickly. A black shogun which was travelling around 50's. When I saw road was clear I passed up to about mid 70's and was accelerating away when the dreaded blue lights flashed behind the grill. I drove on until safe to stop, got out expecting the worse when met by a courteous pc who warned me to take it easy and said just because I was sober plenty are not on these roads and he wouldnt like to see a nice car through the hedge! Told me to be on my way and take it a bit easier. Not just because he didnt charge me he was a fine example of modern policing and his manner was exemplary .10/10

Unmarked Grey Vauxhall Astra SF61 KYN on the M8 eastbound this morning, had pulled someone a mile or so east of the M80 off.
I've seen a silver Astra 5-door hatch on the M8 between Erskine and Port Glasgow (I've seen it pull someone in Erskine, too). It might be the same car as the registration starts SF61, but I don't remember the rest.

There's 4 of these astras kicking about, one black 3 silver/grey. Very low key look like poverty spec hire car diesels. Saw one today in Garthamlock(sp) just came over M8 and back down other side just as the road changes from 70-60.
They are all SF61K** plates

56 plate! you wouldnt think the pigs would have a car that old
Check out the Midlands forum, same subject. Most cars are 56 plate. Old enough to be inconspicuous, new enough to be reliable .Crafty sods .

Spotted an unmarked silver Volvo XC70 on a PX08 plate near the cinema in Stirling earlier, quite a sneaky one!

Light blue ford focus 3 door (yes 3 door) '59' age range in slow miving traffic on M9 spur in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon. Blacked out rear windows and non standard aerial on roof. Strobe heads visible in grille.

Very, very hard to spot if you're not looking for it

Even worse if you were having a bit of sport with it.

They have done that,

M9 last night.

Blue Focus RS mk2. Friend was siting behind it following for a few miles above 80 to keep up.

Biker passed us at 100+ easy and it was away. Lights flashing.

Forgot to mention, there is a black 08 Passat saloon unmarked car going about Aberdeen. Saw it heading towards the hospital a few days ago, don't think I have seen an unmarked one of them before!

Silver V70 on the wrong side of the road at the Kincardine Bridge - SF10 was the plate. Blue lights in grille and below the sun visors inside. Overtook everyone doing about 60, must have been a donut run biggrin
