not unmarked but I've seen a couple of seemingly very old Mondeos the last couple of days, an 07 and a 58

seem a bit old for the BIB to be using especially the 07

Is anyone really sure about cop cars using multiple reg numbers, I would suggest there different cars but the police buy there cars direct from the manufacturers for a fraction of showroom price. Northern Constabulary let it be known under freedom of information inquiry that they bought a £65000 Range Rover direct for I think IIRC £28000 and Land Rover were not at all happy about it.

That's interesting about the police buying the range rover so cheaply, but with regard to cars using multiple plates, I don't think they do?

Spotted a white bmw x1 on the m74 today at jct6 guarding a break down in lane 1. Didn't get the full reg but sure it started sn12 and was being driven by a black cap and not a white one.

I've never heard of this before. Surely the cars are registered like all others no? Why would they use multiple numbers?

Its a story that seems to keep doing the rounds that the police have multiple reg numbers allocated to one car so they can be changed around causing confusion over unmarked cars, I dont believe theres any truth in it, as in my post above its more likely they have multiple cars of same colour/model as they purchase there cars direct from manufacturers at massive discounts over normal showroom price.

I was a Special Constable for a few years and the give away was the SF plates we used to drive about in. Since leaving a few years ago I have noticed that the registrations are now very difficult to spot as they seem to vary so much.

Keeps them under the radar. And it seems to work judging by what people think in this thread.

SF61LLP - Dark grey Mondeo in Castlemilk this morning, lights in the front grill.

Don't imagine it's a traffic car, but a little different to the typical SF-plated Astras you see around the Southside constantly.

White 3-series on the 50mph section of the M80. On the way into Glasgow I saw it had pulled someone. On the way back out I saw it had pulled someone else in nearly the same spot!

Strathclyde has obviously just taken delivery of a lovely new 3 series BMW in inconspicuous white which has been patrolling the whole stretch of the M80 both directions.

I travel Glasgow - Dundee x3 a week only just seen it appear within the past fortnight.

Extremely low profile, with DRL's and with it being white the clear LED's are pretty tough to spot, and it lacks aerials etc.

I've seen it 'stealth' behind a golf GTI which was going 70-75 in the fast lane in the 50 section of the M80 into Glasgow, obviously collecting evidence before pulling it.. and also seen it 'stealth' behind a white transit which was all over the road, across the white line, for about 2 minutes, heading out of Glasgow on a 70 stretch again probably collecting footage before he put the blues on.
