Very amusing, if only!
I will be able to go for a week at the most, finances will definitely be an issue as I'm not wealthy, so although I want to have a great trip, it couldn't be a 5 star one for me I'm afraid. Three grand is most I could stump up I reckon, with a pal sharing that could help.
So I'd like to go for between 5-7 days, nice driving nice scenery good company, good plan!

Ok, well there's nothing to stop some folk driving about while some folk lounge about for a few days.
How about, Mon/Tue week before, drive down, take in some good roads and sights on the way, pick a base in the south where we're all going to be.
We'll have a few days driving/exploring before the GP at the weekend.
Then if folk are heading home on the Monday/Tuesday they can do, leaving a week of partying and driving for the rest?
If we can arrange the 1st week for everyone, that should get us all in the same place for ferries, accommodation and hopefully GP seats. We can look at a villa for that week, keep the costs down and get max VFM.
The 2nd week we can then tailor as we feel suitable.
Sound sensible?

How long would everyone want to go away for? I'd quite like to stay down at the south of France for a good few days after making all the effort to get there.
Would 2 or 3 days for the trip back seem about right or would you want to just blast back up through the alps and get home ASAP?
Who wants to include Italian factory tours in the trip?
I think Kim & I will make it part of a 10 day/2 week holiday. A lot of the cost is in getting down there and back so might as well make the most of it.Would 2 or 3 days for the trip back seem about right or would you want to just blast back up through the alps and get home ASAP?

I think it would be good to take a couple of days to get down/back and enjoy the nice roads on route. Route Napoleon sounds a must!
I'm definitely up for doing the Maranello/factory tour bit too.
Pointed in this direction by johnnycarrera again & I'd definatly be up for it-we're looking at doing a similar trip this April just without the gp.
By the way those ferry costs are quite expensive-darren who runs destination nurburg can normally get me on the hull-Rotterdam ferry for £240 in the basic cabin for 2 people/1 car.
I'm sure if we offer him a little bonus he can use his official discount to perhaps get a better price.

From what is posted so far I think that the best option is a core route or routes that people can drop into or out of as their individual plans see fit.
Some people will want to leave the UK at different times and others will stay on longer after the GP weekend.
As I see it the only common and fixed time is the GP so as long as we are all in Nice/Monaco over the weekend I see no problem in their being little Gumbaw Groups running round Europe in the week before and after.
I do not mind doing a bit of mileage in a day so for what its worth if I do Gumbaw 2012 here is how I would get to Nice.
Edited for security xxx

This equates to about 3K miles 2 channel crossings 6 nights accommodation plus food drinks and GP tickets.
Costs obviously depend on mpg standard of accomodation appetite, thirst and quality of GP tickets so I'll let you work out your own budgets.
Realistically the go:no/go would be when the tickets become available but from expereince there are tickets on the streets 30 mins before the race so any last minute runners still able to make it.
All I need now is:
Money
Time
Agreement from SWMBO
Passenger details (its not a school holiday!!)

Sounds good. I was planning on doing a Euro hoon this year. But this sounds ideal. If I can keep my spends down as it's quite early on in the year. I'd be up for this. Some people will want to leave the UK at different times and others will stay on longer after the GP weekend.

I had a wee look at ferries but its just takes so long...the Rosyth one leaves at 1700 and gets in at 1400 the next day.....even if you get hammered on the way down your still going to be bored sitting on a boat until 1400....going from Hull is less time at sea but still not as fast as a wee punt down south in a car.
As always open to ideas. Fly to Nice and get a hire car? Now thats fast.

There are of course options for getting home via Rotterdam etc but this should be enough to get discussion going.
Ring trip not included (yet) time and money will preclude an extensive week two for me......
