I thought I would start this thread off as I think it's quite a popular idea on here and I would love to help organise the trip. There are a huge number of variables to decide on and all that's set in stone is that the date of the GP will be 24th-27th of May in Monaco. You'll all have opinions on the details of the trip so I'll post up some areas to get started on:

How to book it: i.e. do we try and get group deals or just book individually
I'm sure there will be some big differences in how long people want to be away for, what standard of hotels you want to stay in and whether you want to have some boozy nights or be up early investigating the local roads - let's hear what you'd like!

This is something I have always wanted to do. My birthday is always around that time of year, so it would be fun. I would need to know rough costs as soon as someone, with the previous knowledge of being there, could put a ball park figure on.
Also, I would want to do all the driving ( I'm not a good passenger ) and take my car, but I would be up for taking someone from the group as a passenger if they wanted to chip in for petrol. This is on the strict understanding that you are not a freeeeek.

Lee - I'll do a rough timing/costing in early Jan if peeps are keen to start the planning.
If you spend some of your santa oon the latest CAR mag its got a michelin supplement covering some of the route I want to take - but I want to include Davos and Stelvio aswell as Rue de Napoleon Mt Ventoux and Col du Turini.

I could also speak to my dealer(Ferrari dealer before anyone asks 
) to see if we could do a group factory tour while we're there if there's interest.
Oh and yes as the coiner of the gumbaw(tm) name it would be rude for me not to attend

Andrew is this for 2012?? I have promised to go to the 40th Khamsin reunion/party in Dijon in 2012. Not sure we have a date yet though

Been having similar thoughts about a Euro jaunt after the recent threads on the official Pistonheads Highland and Alpine tours.
Wasn’t considering taking in a GP, more a blast down to Stelvio via the Ring and possibly a trackday at Spa. Not put together a route but would consider incorporating St Bernard, Davos, Julier, probably an 8 or 9 day trip/ holiday.

I'll be there for sure, excluding premature death.
I dare say we'll end up with 2 options, a 14ish day enslaught of Europe for the hardcore and those able to take the time off and a weekend package for those of a busier persuasion.
Route-wise, i'm more than happy for the experienced folk to do the majority of the planning. I'm sure we can trust you to show us the best Europe has to offer.
I reckon we should make the GP part of the trip more extravagant, have a total blow out and more driving the rest of the time.
Would love to do it this year Al but i reckon it's gonna take a lot of planning, booking and saving. If folk could do a Rec-run this year though, that would be great!

Presume it would be better to get a ferry from up here/northern England rather than trek all the way down to the south coast? Anyone got any recommendations for the best route for getting to mainland Europe?
Where to stay:
Personally I suspect staying in Monaco for the race weekend will be a bit over my budget! We stayed in Nice a few years back and it was a easy train journey to Monaco so might be an option. One issue could be secure parking though. If people do end up staying in different hotels it should be easy enough to meet up.

Others have recommended the seating round the swimming pool area - what are peoples thoughts on tickets for quali & race or race only?
Does anyone know how early the tickets become available and the best place to buy them from?

Hi Mike,
When we went over earlier this year we got the dfds seaways ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam at a cost of 300ish quid for 2 people and the car and the basic cabin,would maybe pay a bit extra for the better cabin next time, they were really good and made sure the Ferrari was loaded on a lower section with plenty of space. Ferry takes about 15 hours though but there's plenty to do. Don't know if Amsterdam is a good spot to go to though, but at least it gives a rough idea of cost to get over.
On a previous trip we also stayed in Nice at the Radisson hotel which did have secure underground parking, steep ramps though.
