In and around the Rec room where the router hides. There is another network I could access in my cabin but couldn't get it to connect properly. Suddenly 3days later Wifi in the cabin worked fine.

Offshore wifi is a right old pain. Limited bandwidth and an often a refusal by the operators to increase it due to cost....bah

Add this to 100 crew downloading porn, or whatever, on their ipad of an evening and eventually the maintenance supervisor, or some other office chap, will be peeved that his internet is so slow that it's taking him half an hour to log on to his e-mail. Then the IT police review who is downloading what onboard and all hell lets loose.

C'mon operators this is 2012 ffs, we NEED good internet offshore! I'll bet the Norwegians don't have ultra slow internet!

But the speeds can be laughable - hell, even the wired net speed can be irritatingly slow - my last trip was on the Goldeneye (admittedly tiny and regularly unmanned) and 10 mins to open an email became such a drag that you just didn't bother...
