As another option, you can get a short piece of tube with a threaded boss to take a water temp sender or otter switch, this just goes in line anywhere convenient in the top hose. Revotec is the name that springs to mind, DT sell them for example.

Cheers chaps. I think the otter switch position is one of the daftest ideas going or rather where it is with respect to access. When it leaks, it is well hidden and a sod to get to.

Anyhow, the swan neck cap thingy need doing as its slightly dented giving a poor seal so I may as well get a shiny stainless one done to boot. Not sure if my swan neck is the same as others as its a Range Rover block. Will have to send it off as a pattern.

Peter, never thought of that. Another option. Get the swan neck done at the local rad fixers and insert the temp sender on a pipe. Cheers.

Do you maybe need to stop and think for a minute?

Whilst you're at it weld the rad up and install a threaded Griff thermo in the swan neck. Sorry about your plight but you do write an amusing story.

Something I have seen on other threads and intend to do but the present position is around 14-18 inches from the swan neck cap.

Yeah but I had it go on me twice in several days. It went from "I must get around to it" to "I AM going to do it" after yesterday. A new seal was provided and that split yesterday, or showed up as split yesterday. With the new seal I thought I would have a bit of time to ease the wallet after the service (higher than expected). Then it split. Incentive to get it done pronto provided.

When the rad goes off I will do the swan neck as well.

Ah, just re reading. I was taking Peter's sugestion to mean a seperate piece of pipe to the swan neck to hold the switch. Something I could install next to the thermostat housing for example. Rather than in the swan neck itself which is what I was thinking of.

Edited to add

This looks good Link

I think that I may have misunderstood your misunderstanding however the main thing is that you seem to be on the road to a good solution; now if only there were another ten hours in each day...

Been thinking some more. There are quite a few gaps around the rad. Bottom gap is very big (no mucky jokes here please).
