My 400se had a rolling road dyne recorded in July 2007 at 270.4bhp at 5,600 rpm, with 291 fftlb torque at 3,650rpm. Don't think it,s on these figures now though. Can these have nitrous added easily?

Well they're all coming out of the woodwork now.

It's an old figure but you seem to indicate you still have the car, & you have been honest about it too.

My feeling is you may have lost a few ponies over the years but as long as nothing major has worn out (cam, rings, valve seats) you could still win a fresh shootout.

I will let the other Wedgies decide if you should get the crown.

By the way I am doing my best to keep up with the mighty Wedgies, latest addition below:

Maybe only worth an extra 5hp, but should sound pure Pre-Cat Griff heaven cloud9

The Chimp goes Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

There was a thread titled 'Show us your torques' after BBWF '10 where a few cars posted 250+ from memory... I think one hit 283bhp.
I might try refitting the NCK-ported inlet manifold to my car instead of the DIY affair that's on it now, maybe there are a few more ponies that I decapitated wink

Ian
En route to Sao Miguel for another week of wine and cheese and kayaking in the Atlantic (no, Wooly, I'm not alone biggrin)

Rob Robertson from V8 Developments has just posted these interesting & informative comments over in the cage.

"Sorry to dissapoint you dave, but the wedgies came with more powerfull engines from the factory than the chims or griffs!, the very early 390 wedges that where built by nck where fitted with big valve heads/high compresion and a lot of them where fitted with 234 cams, later changing to 214 cams, a totally un molested early 390 was making around 270, they didnt drive very nice so they started pulling back on cams etc...., i know of a few 270-280bhp 4.0 chims that i built but dont know if they are ph'ers"

Most NCK engines, was made with high compression Cosworth pistons, with ported heads and inlet, and fast cams.

The 4.2 NCK were built with omega forge pistons that were also used in the cossy engine, my engine has the omega pistons, ringed heads, shotened trumpets, 71mm throttel boady, stage 3 stainless valves 3 step angled and huge ports and shortened valve stems and the crank from the iceberg project plus lightened fly wheel plus any other buts that NCK put in when building, I rebuilt the engine with new piston rings which cost a bit ill tell ya...

The SEAC engines were fitted with the kent 234 cam but I fitted my car with kent 224 hoping for a little better low revs manners hehe ohh well... after I fould a lobe missing hehe

Im liking the figures the wedges are getting but the action on the chimp and griffs are going slowly

The 390 had forged Omega pistons, ported heads & inlet manifold, high-lift cam, shortened valve guides & dual-sprung standard-size valves.

Certainly my first (S2) 390 felt the quickest of my three 3.9/4Litre Wedges.
It also used the most oil and fuel.

The 400 felt the slowest, and that had 195 @ wheels + 250ftlbs torque (hotwire).

I'm sure that it needn't take a lot of work to extract more from the 'cooking' 4L engines...
porting the heads, high-lift cam, shortened valve guided, valve pockets in the pistons and making sure the fuelling is kosher would appear to be good for 50+ horses more than a 350. The next 50 may be a bit harder to corral biggrin
