This has to be the wedge dedication thread of the year.

My hat goes off to you Ralph.

My first wedge had me banging me head against the wall all the time, you seem more technical minded than me though.

Hi Rob
That's very kind off you mate and hopefully this engine re-build should at lease get the car up and running correctly, so i can start completing what really needs doing, its gonna be a long road mate but am enjoying it.

All the best

It's a lovely engine to build, nothing too fiddly, no quad-cam timing nonsense, big chunky parts and proper fasteners.
Plenty of oil on anything that moves, make sure the bearing shells are all seated properly and there's not a speck of anything under them.
Setting the rocker pedestal height is probably the trickiest bit, helps to have a selection of bits of wire (mains cable, welding rod, that sort of thing biggrin) and a cheap Aldi vernier caliper.
If you want to make things (in my opinion) a bit easier, rebuild the block as far as the head gaskets then put it back in the car. Then put the heads on, getting the exhaust manifolds into position as you go. This means you are lifting a lighter unit and will have more room around it to avoid clouting the shell, chassis etc as it goes in. The slight downside is you spend more time bent over the car afterwards, putting the heads etc. back on... I guess if the car has to stay outside for the whole process it'd be better to have the heads back on before refitting, if only to avoid FOD getting in, and things corroding if you don't get the job done straightaway.

Whatever you do - don't get the paint in the valley or inside where the oil goes!!! A friend of mine bought a nice yellow Rover V8 engine, only to have it sieze 25 miles later, with paint all in the sump, the oil pump, clogged everything!

Hi Ralph..Personally i think red would go nice but whatever you do mask it up properly, As adam says avoid any paint entering valleys or bolt fixings..Also if you are using heat proof paint its a good idea to have a heat gun handy and give it a gentle warm over before you paint and after..Keep the gun around 10" away on a low setting, Waving it back and forth..Apply the paint in light even applications and warm up after each coat..Dont forget the before and after pics.. wink..Cheers..Speak soon...Ziga

Cheers Adam & Zig
Yep watched a few video's of how to do it and really don't want that happening as had enough problems and thanks i think maybe black and some chrome should do the trick just to keep on the safe side.

Cheers
