Well after just selling my bmw M5 i desided to buy the car that i remember most when i was younger and low and behold this car came up for sell, its a series 2 car which is a non runner, but has had the heads re-built and a new clutch, but the owner( a really nice guy called Ian) had given up, so it down to me to get to get this car back on the road, so i,ll start with replacing the starter motor which is shot and see where that take me.

Kind Regards

Welcome to the world of the Wedge. I know you will love it once you get it fettled. Really enjoyed mine since buying it in 2009

Have a look at this thread as it may provide the solution or at least part of it

Should only take an hour or two to get that sorted (non-starting as I recall).

After I bought my 280 it took months of fiddling to finally trace a whole stack of weird electrical behaviour down to a couple of dodgy earth points. Voila !! MUCH better after cleaning up and sorting out dodgy crimps and corroded eyelets...

Welcome to TVR madness.....

Many thanks for the warm welcome guys, am sure i am gonna love this car and have found the thread the seller had made, so its a good start, just need to sort this starter motor as the guy in a local parts place quoted me £170.00 which i think is way over priced, so could anyone confirm that this is just a stock rover V8 starter please.

Kind Regards

Ralph

Yes, it's a standard Rover starter motor.

Be careful, yes it is a stock Rover/Land Rover starter motor, but depending on your exhaust manifolds you may need the short bodied version. This carries the same part number as it's larger bodied sibling.
My last one came from my local Land Rover specialist and had been collecting dust on the shelf! Can't recall what it cost now.

There's a Landrover specialist that sells a Prestolite alternative much cheaper than some of those listed elsewhere - I've got one on my car it works really well. IMO don't by a stock part from another car as used by TVR from a TVR dealer unless you happy to part with much more money than you need to.

Hi Ralph350i (glad to sell the tvr to a nice bloke too mate smile), it's Ian here mate. I'm pretty sure that the solenoid on the spare starter is ok so if you can swap that then fingers crosses and all that. I think I found out the problem albeit too late really but check the wires that go into the power resistor.
Appreciate everyone else's help but I checked all earths and all ok.
Good luck and do keep me informed mate.
Fingers crossed my 390 may ??? be ready this weekend smile
