Im new to tvr motoring and new to soft tops as well.So a silly question, should the car shudder quite a bit over bumps and ridges? Theres movement up the steering too. Ive had new compliance bushes and anti-roll bar bushes fitted along with a brake upgrade. This has taken some of the twitchiness out of the steering but i still feel uncomfortable attacking uneven roads. The car has AVO fully adjustable springs and dampers. Just as a side point my modified 620ti is a bit slower in a straight line but seems quicker on a twisty/bumpy road.

Some people set the dampers way too hard. Back the dampers off to the point the car starts to wallow and then wind them up just enough to stop it. That should cure most of the scuttle shake you are getting. Cheers, Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

Well the thing is with your 620 is that like most modern cars it'll have a load of compliance in all of the suspension mounts, steering etc etc, all of this serves to isolate the driver from the fact that the wheels are flailing about (about 50mm fore-aft is pretty normal under load) this in turn creates a false sense of security and so you drive even faster. Whereas TVR's have a minimum of compliance and so you feel every bump, contour and dropped Fag packet. Ironically despite the suspension performance tending to be higher you'll slow down, as it all gets a bit much. But go to a circuit or other smooth road and you'll be MUCH faster in the TVR . Also modern tinboxes have an enormous amount of time spent on rubber bush tuning so that the wheel compliance doesn't corrupt steering feel and the driver s blissfully unaware the wheels are about to fall off. The only exception I've driven to this end is the Jag XKR, that had fantastic ride / bump asorbation but maintained good steering feel and that has an alarming amount of rubber bits.
