Wings Over Europe - Remembering D-Day Event at North Weald
http://northwealdairfieldfunday.files.wordpress.co...
Much, MUCH bigger than the last one we went to there
Some of the guys we went to the last one with will be going along - no scheduled convoy though.
Weather forecast dry and warm.
[i]What’s on
The focus of this year’s show is the 70th anniversary of D-Day on 6 June 1944. North Weald played its part in the preparations, and our Norwegian squadrons departed to take the fight to the continent.
Take a look at our Band of Brothers display, with pictures of the famous film being made at the Airfield, US 101st Airborne Division re-enactors and the Transport Command Memorial’s Dakota. There will also be a static display of aircraft including a Folland Gnat, MiG 17 and Huey helicopter.
We will have several aircraft displaying from 2pm to 3pm. The flying will finish with a display by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire and Hurricane at 3pm.
The day will end with a march past by Royal British Legion standard bearers and members accompanied by the Epping Forest Pipe Band at 4pm.
Planes
We will have several aircraft displaying from 2pm to 3pm, including a Hawker Hunter T7 ‘Fox 1’, the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron’s de Havilland Vampire FB52 and Brendan O’Brien’s Flying Circus where he lands his Piper Cub on the top of a trailer being towed down the runway.
This will mark our first airshow at North Weald Airfield since 1999.
The flying will finish with a display by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire and Hurricane at 3pm.
