Repairing the original is plan B; The TR7 one is very close (correct splines etc) but 40mm too short; hopefully I can get a refund on it...

Done the bushes. Took 2-hours in the end as extra spacers were needed in a different order to how they came off.

Handbrake was at the end of the adjustment and the pad screws wouldn't move so it looks like dropping the whole thing to refurb everything is on the cards.

On the plus side it looks like an LSD is fitted. The wheels span in the same direction when turned.

Need to go to the office tomorrow.

Some progress then. Was there a metal tag bolted to the cover plate at the back of the diff? It should give the ratio and whether PowrLok?

Handbrake calipers can be removed in situ - bit fiddly but possible. Can you get a long pound through screwdriver (or impact driver with an extension bar) on the screws? Shouldn't really take much effort to turn them.
ETA: not sure that it should make a difference, but was the handbrake off?

I didn't look any further at the diff other than turning the wheels.

Off to DT on the 13th for the front tracking so will have a look at bushes etc... then. If the bushes are fine I'll look at doing the brakes in situ. If the bushes are shot then out with the cradle.

I think the exhaust needs attention.

Yes the handbrake was off.

Dropping the diff cradle is a perfect opportunity to replace the discs as well, as its a right PITA to take the main calipers off in situ - I have done it myself both ways. They also need the caliper bolts lockwiring in place, which is far easier off the car. Also worth checking what type of alloy beam you have the diff slung from, as there was a later modification to add extra bracing. I've managed to break a couple in my time!

You can remove the disc's and calipers if you remove the 4 bolts holding the drive shaft to the disc and one end of the cross bar. and pull the drive shaft away from the disc. of you can remove this calipers via NS chassis, but you need to remove the handbrake calipers before removing the calipers. or drop the whole sub frame.

The racer had a quick release steering wheel, this came with a shaft extender that was designed to be welded on, which we did and has been fine. so you could cut and shut them.

Just to add clarity to my earlier post re: diff type, having been under Priscilla today biggrin there were 2 tags bolted to the rear cover: one with the ratio, and one with: "PL" - shorthand for Powr-Lok.

Yep once again thanks to number 7 fettling moving on, today we changed engine oil for VR1 which is my preferred oil and driving home oil pressure was better than before now up to 50 on the motorway and down to 30 on A roads so that's a sign of a healthy engine
Also changed oil filter and air filter, changed rear pads and sorted out a sticky piston, discs and callipers are ok but will change them next year
Thought boot solenoid was fecked as boot would not open turns out a bad connection as I traced all back to solenoid and now works perfect so got a spare solenoid on the way
As number 7 said found out Priscilla has a limited slip diff so will get oil for that

Found a broken cotton bush for the exhaust so will order two

Hopefully next week change diff and gearbox oil and exhaust bush, then that should be the major bits done then its exterior and interior

Have to thank number 7 for all his invaluable knowledge and help
