Think I may even have started a post about it some while back and then vaguely recall somebody actually having done it. Have come back round to working out what to do with mine. Question is wrap vs paint and interested to hear how the wrap has held up over time. Wondering how the wedge would look in Jaguar French Racing Blue?!

it was blue and at last years fest.

Personally if I was going the wrapping route I would of gone more radical in the colour department but everyone to their own.

A friend of mine from Dubai has just gone somewhat mental with his M5:

Was previously white now 'blue chrome wrap'.

Hi, do not wrap your wedge, it does not stick well to fibreglass, it has started to peel from the sills and in the corners on some areas where there are to many curves, this will need to be removed and repainted in the future, plus i think it devalues the car, stick to paint.

Yeah i agree with Mark. Mine was wrapped in 2005. A nice light metalic blue to a bland black, i assume it was nice and shiny. Now it is dull, and as mark says lifting at the edges.
Dont do it. I'n planning to take mine of somehow and get it resprayed.
The ones in the links above look really good tho but i agree that they dont stick well to fibreglass and start to peel, in my case it was peeling when i bought it last June.Thats only 7 years, goodness knows when it first started.
Might get my astra wrapped in the chrome like the link above.

Glad I asked! Thanks chaps, helpful warnings - sounds like a respray the better route on glass fibre. Mine desperately needs doing - it looks like an 80s bathroom suite. Slightly ashamed to say but I also quite like that wrapped M5!

Just came across this wrapping site with a sampler.

Just click on the menu button and have a play: http://www.wrapstyle.com/sampler

This company wrapped the M5 above.

Marcus - 7 years is pretty good tho ......

If you wrapped it every three years would still be cheaper than a respray and you get a new car every three years !!!

I know I have mad logic but like the idea of changing now and then

Although if you are looking at a respray maybe we can try and get a two for one deal somewhere up here :-)

Thing is with mine is that it is primarily a track car which I hope to race later this year although it it still road legal. Therefore the expenditure on a respray doesn't feel worth it given the likely knocks and other items that are likely to consume funds. Not sure if the elusive 'cheap' respray is feasible in which case wrapping, even if it only gave me a few years, might not be such a bad idea.

Hi Lear, the guy that wrapped mine used it as a track day car, and hillclimbs so that was probably his thinking too.
I bought with the same use in mind, but after a few trips out in it i quickly changed my mind. like it too much to risk writing it off. So am restoring it slowly back to its former glory.
So i can see your thinking here.

Hi Mate..If you are going to race the wedge then is there any point to splashing out on a paint job..Or even a blow over...Or even getting it wrapped..?...Could be money spent elsewhere.smile..Ziga

Hi

I will say I never liked the idea of wrapping a car because you can always see the joins and as proven by this post the do have a tendence for the edges to lift etc.

Now the car done last year How much did it cost?

Now he did all the prep himself which if he had a respray done would also need doing and that is an expensive part of a respray so that has to be added into the wrapping cost!

Now to get a reasonable respray (Not colour change) it will cost about £1k to £1500 and the cars value will be enhanced because its still original but now in better looking condition.
Whilst a wrapped car value may be reduced because its now not original!

To me it's not worth it spend your money on a respray its really not that much more!

Andy,

I personally don't think you'll get close to 'reasonable' for £1,000-£1500.

Reasonable = £2,500-£3,000, more in London.

I agree with Andy. I think you WILL get an excellent respray in original colour
here in London for 1500 or less. My car is at the sprayer right now getting sections painted. This guy has sprayed a TVR for me before with excellent results and that was matching it to the existing paint. I am sure I asked him what he charges for a respray on a Wedge before and he said something around 1200. I can ask him again if you like when I go to collect my car, hopefully Wednesday. It does of course depend on what other damage there is on the car.

I think that's a great price as I was budgeting around £3000 to £3500 for a total respray

Would be interested to hear happy stories with prices and places to use !

Tony, would be very grateful if you could let me know who you use as that sounds like what I am after! Ziga, agree there is plenty to spend on to go racing but I'd kind of like the car presentable rather than looking like an old bathtub!

I will be hopefully collecting my car from the paint shop on Wednesday. I will have a word with the guy about a full respray on a Wedge and then pass his details and what he said on to you.

Does he have a proper heated booth for the £1,000-£1500?
