Repairable? Or am I looking for a donor body?
Discussion
Yep could be, I haven't tested it. The car is 30 mins from home in the opposite direction from work so getting there is not the easiest.
I did measure from the point of the nose cone (behind the bumper) to the back of that panel (i.e. front of the door gap) on both sides. I got 1572mm nearside and 1567mm Offside. I'd be interested to know if others were a lot different?

I have been remiss in updating this thread on my 280i.
Things are moving along and gweting quite exciting. The body has now been painted and was trucked back to my place yesterday. After an interesting unload (back the truck into the garage, attached the front to a block and tackle through he engine bay then drive the truck forward and hold the back end up while you put a trestle under it...) and I now have lots of jobs to do.
Before I can put the body back on the chassis, I need to:
run the brake lines to the rear of the car,
attached new rubber (I bought 3mm nitrile sheet) between fuel tanks and body.
Refit fuel tanks and hoses, plus my new fuel pump, accumulator and fuel lines.
Cut and glue onto chassis the rubber pads between chassis and body (I bought 4.5mm nitrile rubber sheet)
I have a couple of questions though...
I need to refit the fuel sender unit. I intend using the 3mm nitrile sheet cut to size but do I need a sealant too or is the rubber enough by itself?
Do I need to fit the handbrake cable as well?
Is there anything else that it makes sense to do before the body goes back on?

Wow, I didn't realise it had been so long since I posted pics. Current status: Body on and bolted down. Headlamp pods back in. All foam underlay in place. Boot lid and lock on.front and rear bumpers and lights back in. Fuel lines/pump/accumulator/swirl pot etc all in. I can't seem to upload more than 1 photo per post so I will upload a few separate ones.

Thanks Keith, seems excruciatingly slow progress as I'm doing almost all of this for the first time and even then, only on weekends and after work. It's actually not that far off, but I do go through phases of "rabbit in the headlights" trying to work which of a hundred things needs doing next.
One step at a time..Carpets, steering and wiring next. And the engine bay hoses, and...
Yep, winter is coming but if I can have it licensed and on the road by Sep I will be pleased.
