The heater control sliders are a TVR customized ford unit. They bolt to the back plate of the center Dash & operate a "push - Pull" wire that controls the hot water flow valve and the up / down flap in the airbox.

The knobs on the front are I believe Mk3 Capri (I guess you could assume then that the units themselves are capri (I have one on order for comparison).

DO you need any bits? I have a few spares

Give me a few days and ill confirm if the capri ones fit. There is a guy on ebay advertising the plastic slider knobs, but its been 10 days now and he isnt answering my messages so I have an email complaint against him.

Ok, quick update, the Capri Knobs look the same but DONOT fit. However, I reckon they can be easily modified and made to fit.

The issue is the slot in the back is too small, and Ive failed to match up the exact Ford model they are off.

If all else fails, I have a mate who does prototyping and Ill see if he can knock me some out.

Just to keep this up to date, I was at a classic car show and found a 1972 Mk1 Escort 1300L that had exactly the controls / lever covers as fitted to my 400SE

Now to find a pair !!.....

Just a observation

The older M / Taimar's had the later Mk3 Capri & Mk2 Escort heater control / slider like this = http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-CAPRI-MK3-MK2-ESCOR...

Would make sense that the later wedge would have the same or later ford type slider knobs

Do all 400SE's have the ribbed knob (that sounds bad lol) if not could yours have been swapped to these after the originals got lost?

Just my 2 cents getmecoat

No, those on FleaBay have smaller squarer shafts. The knob on the end literally just sticks to the end.

on my 400SE (1991/2) there is an upper and a lower slider and the shaft that connects the mechanism through the dash is a lot flatter and the knobs actually sleeve over, with the end knobs offset (upper and lower)

I bought a pair of mechanisms off Mr Tank 2 years ago and they were the same as the ones fitted to mine

Here is a mk3 capri controller

here is the one fitted to my 400SE

If you take knob off the first photo and put it next to the one fitted to the 400SE, you can see the difference

I really need to get hold of a 400SE that has the heater controls complete and see if its possible to have a pair manufactured

:cough: I believe I hace said this on more than one occasion... wink
My dad ID'd the ones on my Tasmin way back in '95, the first time he sat in it: he'd owned and worked on enough Mk 1 Escorts to spot the heater knobs straight off smile
