Thread resurrection !

Peter Wheelers SEAC up for sale again at a much reduced price of £22k.

http://www.redlinesportscars.com/othercars.php

Is there something wrong with this car, it seems to be up for sale almost continuously ?

I've been to see it and the car needs a lot of work cosmetically and mechanically to get into top condition. PM me if you want more details.

I think this car would be better suited as a museum piece due to it's history and rarity. Most people like myself are looking for a car they can use and enjoy. Hence it keeps coming up fof sale and stays on sale for long periods at a time. A die hard Wedge enthusiast with a lot of cash is needed for a successful long term ownership of this car. Just my opinion.

This is the dichotomy. A good original Wedge that is for sale, ready to use and enjoy is almost impossible to find.

Esp at current wedge prices, saying that a 350i that looked very sorted just sold for 5k, we need to stop devaluing the wedges if they are ever to go up like all the others have.

I understand what you are saying but if you paid 50k for a Wedge would you really enjoy driving it? I would be too scared to wipe it let alone drive it. The beauty of the Wedge is that it is still affordable fun sports super car.

I totally agree. Maybe that is what it takes to get a good well sorted Wedge. Real money rather than doing it yourself. I envy the latter.thumbup

Some people are capable and do precisely that...They deserve a big round of applause,
Unless you own a garage and a coating business then even with most of the gear you will still need to rely on someone else which will cost money...Granted people who have all the gear certainly save a lot of LB's ..Sadly and i hate to say it there are people who have owned these cars along the way and even though they meant well and tried to DIY they really should not of!...If i had the money i would certainly overspend on Poppy and bring her back to a glorious condition...I would keep the original engine and have it rebuilt but with some gas flowing ...Porting..Bigger valves...A good range cam for low-mid driving..Rebuilt gearbox...Suspension...Brake upgrade and probably something like MS for the ignition.

If i were Les Edgar i would buy Peter Wheelers SEAC...Wild Rover and the Yellow Beast and have them on show in the new TVR building along with some early Vixens and Griffith and then 2th scale models of the rest...AND the cars will be driven at Goodwood or showcase classic events...Le man classic....You get the picture...Bit like what Ferrari do..smile

The new model could be in the foyer of the new headquarters on a rotating stage so you see it as you enter the building...

Oh well...Reality check...Im not Les Edgar...And i don't have my own garage...But i try to do the best for my Wedge to keep her in a roadworthy condition until such times where i may be able to splash the cash...smile

It is only on this forum that i ever here of wedges being devalued and that probably means that there are only wedge owners doing the devaluing! Every time someone asks me what mine is worth and i tell them (my opinion), they look shocked, as in they expect it to be more.

Come on guys, enjoy the fact we bought them at the price we did, spend too much money on them, as we do and let them rise in value as they should.

I agree, maybe TVR should buy up some of the historic stuff such as the Peter Wheeler SEAC, however i fear their focus and finances will be else where for some time (quite rightly) and they will possibly end up borrowing the cars for show pieces if they ever get to the heights we would like them to achieve.

You would think that the "halo effect" of such a magnificent machine would drag up the value of a humble 350i. Alas, no.

It is an absolute fact that the interesting vehicles I sell then gain in value e.g. 1966 Mini, 1969 Mini, elderly AJS. The vehicles I keep are cursed with minimal appreciation.
I see that DG have this one at present for many beer tokens

Eight grand buys a lot of pose-power to young guys though; warp speed with 4 of your mates in a 1990s WRX STi Impreza is always going to be preferable to you and one mate in a 1980s plastic oddity wink
Then you get the middle-aged to whom only a Porsche or Mercedes badge will do, and for the poorer of that age group you're now in older Boxter/ SLK territory.
So to spend real money on a Wedge you have to really, REALLY want one, and the best at that.

What has money got to do with it. It's the owner's decision to do whatever they want.cool

Money has a lot to do with it. You can't spend 50k if you only have 10k. It's simple mathematics most people should be able to understand. yes

Can we please not turn this into another sniping zone...People spend money when they can and spend it on what they want to spend it on..Perhaps not always on what they need to spend it on...I think every single human being on this planet do the same irrelevant of income.

I have no regret about spending 9K on a 280i that was sold for 2K..I spent it on it because i had it and i wanted to spend it, I loved that car and wanted something a bit special for me...Yes in hindsight i would of bought a 390SE or a 400SE or even had a 5.0ltr implant into Poppy...But i could of also died in that time.

People who are passionate about their cars will spend four times what its worth and keep it as long as they can..."You know who you are"

Some buy cheap..Do a small amount of work and sell on for higher PROFIT...These people turn cars around yearly...."You know who you are".

There are people who own more cars than they could possibly drive for whatever reason and spend a fortune on restorations...Transport...Fuel...Insurance...Garaging...Just to take them to shows..."You know who you are".

There are people who buy a wreck...Spend the next 10 + years restoring it at a cost sometimes beyond their P.A income and would even live in a cupboard and eat scraps in order to do so..."You know who you are".

Then there are people who have a lot of money and the reason why most of them have a lot of money is because they do not let their heart rule their head..."They don't know who they are....But we do"..smile

There are also people who buy what we would consider complete shyte cars and rave about them like they are the best thing in the world..."You know who you are".

99.9% of Wedge owners that i have met are simply off their tatts...(In fact most TVR owners)..Which is a bonus cos that suits me...At the moment i struggle to keep my P&J on the road but its because of the passion that burns within that drives me on...This is also what drives me to organising events and helping fellow enthusiasts/Friends to keep their P&J on the road...I know what it means to them because i feel it too..."I know who i am....And so do you"...smile

Lets just revel in our time...Enjoy what we do because we enjoy doing it..Doing it because we REALLY want to and not because we have to..Appreciate the wide collective of people doing the same for the same reasons that we do it...Always remember..."A good soup has a variety of select ingredients"...

Who cares if the other kid has more sweets than you...You will have more teeth than him later on...laugh

So lets stop stereotyping and live for the here and now.

Viva la TVR...Viva la Wedge.

"Keep calm...Keep spending money on the Wedge...And always tell the missus".....

Hope you have had a good W.....Whooops...Bank holiday weekend...

Cheers
