Dix...You need to check for leaks..As said in the footwell...Under the car and on and around the front wheels..Check the rears also.

If you were to stamp on them for an emergency stop do they pull to one side?..Is there any shudder or shaking?...Is the spongy feel consistent or are they firm and then go spongy?..Have you changed to softer brake pads?..

You may find if it's left for a while and then you bleed it the air will come out straight away, I've had a couple of cars that no matter what you did the pedal felt soggy, leaving the car for a couple of weeks (I also work overseas occasionally) and the it bled no problem. I know when I gt my 4 pots rebuilt they where a sod to bleed, the pedal was awful but it still got through the MOT, re-bleeding a few weeks later solved it.

I've also had a nightmare with cupro nickel brake lines, apparently bubbles stick to it like st to a blanket and you just can't get it all out in one go, again the "leave it for another day" method worked.
