Having had to do some emergency repairs to my fuel pipe AGAIN yesterday (all ok now though) which resulted in me and my little'un getting home from school at 5.00pm (1 hour late) and me doing the repairs in Asda car park, I got home feeling quite cheesed off with the wedge frown

Took my little'un and his friends to Karate and one of the dad's has a Boxster which I have a secret hankering for.

Anyway got chatting to him and he said take her out for a spin biggrin

I now want a Porsche Boxster...what a car....I know I know, common as muck and all that but the way it drives and the handling is second to none. I really am getting to the end of my tether with the constant/permanent fettling required with my wedge.....

The Boxster would suit me much more, get in and go.......I really don't care about the non rarity of it compared to the wedge and all that..........

Anyone want a 390 ??? smile

Might well do mate, biggrin , but do you know what it would be a lot less stressful than constantly having to FcensoredK about with the lump of metal I've got at the moment !!!

Nothing wrong with Boxsters, the later the better imho.

My 5.5 is awesome but a Boxster is in a different league in everything apart from rarity and ultimate performance.

It's the sort of car that you can use as a daily hack as well as for a Sunday blast.

I would have my chim and a newish Boxter S in a heartbeat, (funds allowing smile).

The boxter is a brilliant sports car, until it breaks down or needs a major service. It's not the sort of car you can tinker with in the Asda car park. It'll burn a hole deep in your pocket. And where do the parts come from? Rover? Ford? NO! PORCHE! ALL PURE PORCHE!biggrin

You may wish to google Boxster problems. Not as bulletproof as you'd imagine. Just go in with your eyes open.

That said, I would have happily had a Boxster as my daily driver in lieu of Samy. If it weren't a need for me to 'relearn' front engine / rwd I may well have had one.

Agree totally .... Had some interesting and expensive experience with these cars ... You know my views Ian! Key issue here is Porker dealer service history and mileage, my money is its coming up to or gone through the 60k threshold so time for a major service with replacement parts, all in can be £1800. As said here you cannot bodge this or ignore it fella or reap the £ whirlwind yes

Ian, mate...........

Last time you were hankering after a Mini................

Now, its a porker, FFS ! Have you got no pride ? wink

As a matter of coincidence, I drove a Z4 beemer this week, nice car, goes well, steers good, no issues....and that is exactly the problem, no character, to polished !!

I've managed to land myself a 430 Griff, which will grace the garage as of September, so for once I wish the summer was over...

........a Boxster laugh

Hi Ian
Can understand where you're coming from - constant niggles really take the enjoyment out of running a classic car. As stated boxsters are excellent cars (although they have a somewhat hairdressers image problem) but at the end of the day it's a Porsche with Porsche running costs. Why not invest the money Into sorting your 390? There's a good car there if you were to spend a few quid on it. Probably cost you less than a boxster in the long run too. Another alternative is to sell the 390 and buy a well sorted wedge instead. Maybe you just fancy a change though ?
Good luck

Ah, a change, what a good idea.

How about a genuine 323bhp/350 torque chim that has really been sorted.

Reliability, looks and that all important POWER!

Wow Frank!
That is a surprise and congratulations.

Ian, once the fuel lines are fixed, it should be fine. Shouldn't break the bank either, even when you get it done.
And as Chris said, porsche is fine (used to work on those when I studied, no boxsters around at that time) except for maintenance, parts and repairs. For those amounts you can have a wedge on the side....., while saving for the bills wink
You love the 390, it is on the way up and for a car that age it is doing well. BUT it is not maintenance free, no serious performance car is, or you need to buy a new not-performance thingy (dacia anyone, or a toyota....) and not enjoy yourself while driving.
Hope you keep it.

Just my two-penny worth ...

ive been lucky enough to own both a Porsche 993 (last of the air-cooled 911's), and a 944 S2 in the last few years ... both very reliable, very capable ..the bills when they came though were LARGE ...

but the main thing is that I never felt I really 'bonded' with them in the way I have already with my wedge - maybe its the quirkiness, and far more individuality ...

Exactly!!!...When we came back from Belgium i must of seen about 20-30 Porsches...Going to France and obviously coming back...Once upon a time i used to say.."Cor look at the 911 Targa Carrera"..But that was back in the day when they were new and looked amazing...However when we were at the Chunnel waiting to go home what to cars were getting the most looked at?????...Oh what a surprise...Me and Chris in our Wedges.....:wavy:...Come on Ian you know you love the Wedge and the thing is if you were to spend the money that you intend spending on a Porsche then you would end up with a reliable good looking rare 390SE...

Interior including seats..Carpet, Dash....Retrimmed in Vinyl with half leather seats + Carpet = £1000 or £700 if you do the carpet yourself which i would always help with...

Engine = A good overhaul and service = £1500...
Bodywork = £1000 or match the colour and "Plasti-dip" it = £500
Chassis...(Mates rates on the riggers) = £700-£1000

So say 5K which doesn't have to all be done at once... Which you would easily get back on it after the work has been done..Maybe a bit more...

And don't be putting obstacles in the way like "I can't work on it where it is"...Crap...I have to work on mine in the mofo street!!!...If i didn't live on a hill then i would have it up on axles stands come autumn and would be cleaning and re-painting as much of the chassis as possible...

Im going to say this but don't mean it in a derogatory way mate...All the time you have been faffing around chasing cars that you will not only get bored of in a week but will cost you a small fortune in services and possible work that can ONLY be carried by Porsche.

By now that 390SE would be a stunner, Reliable, Looking and sounding spanking!...So stop muttering and stuttering and sort it out...Or the ski mask and baseball bat will come out of the cupboard....

Besides...You would be forced to leave the gang and no-one leaves the gang..Once your in..Your in it for life man!!!....bandit
