So after telling my wife not to open the boot with the radio on, I opened the boot with the radio on (SEAC rear spolier).

I now have a bent aerial. I have straightened it but now it sticks. Is it possible to take it apart, to straighten it?

Thanks.

I've tried it in the past after a low flying bird smacked the aerial but it was never right and always used to stick so eventually had to give in and fit a new one.

Once those ariels are damaged I'm afraid it has to be a new one. On some electric ariels it is possible to buy just the retractable section but it all depends on the make of your ariel etc. It is possible to wire the electric ariel to retract if you open the boot, but I'm not sure how quickly it would retract to save damaging it.

Thanks.

Any idea where I can get one from?

You can buy a fully automatic ariel from most good auto spares shops, but you must make sure it is a fully automatic one if you want it activated by the stereo. The rest are activated by a switch.

You could rig it up to a 4 pin relay to come up asoon as the ignition is turned on if not smile

Many many years ago in my boy racer days I just attached an aftermarket aerial, connected up and left it under the dash

Had a great signal and no issues, may have been just luck but thought I'd share

I gave up trying to get a good quality aerial when I snapped the one on my 400SE, so have resorted to fitting an amplified one under the dash. recieption is just as good as it has its own ground plain.
mine cost £40 from the US and was on a Harley accessory site (its a lot better than the cheapie £20 ones from Halfrauds!)

Or just fit a bendy/rubber one.. Admittedly, they are not as pleasing on the eye.

Though tbh, I have yet to turn on my stereo. The noise from the rear is all the music I need. smile

What are you doing trying to listen to the radio in a Wedge anyway??

Interlock the radio on/aerial up with a relay to interrupt the boot solenoid.
