Hi all,
I've had a project on the go for a whole now and I fitted one side today, so now I know it fits although I've not started it yet and run it up as the paint needs to cure..

I'll go back to the start and run through with the progress shots.

This is the mould made from parts of a rover cover wood and car bog.... Lots of car bog!
You can't cast from an original cover as I shrinks so the mould has to be an even percentage bigger all round so it shrinks to the correct size.

This was the first attempt to cast but because of the thin wall thickness (you can see a hole in the inside wall where the indentation is)the foundry said it needed to be hotter and use nitrogen to get rid of the oxygen.
So the next time round was ok and the process documented.
More to follow.

Adam,

Let me the first to congratulate you.

You're onto a winner here if you decide on limited production.

Cheers Phil,
They are not exactly the same as I've made them from photos, drawn it and scaled it myself but they are close and it means the originals are distinguishable, as for making more, I guess as long as the mould lasts......

As you can see from the thread cut quality of the casting is good, no air in the cast.
And they use a much smoother sand on the outside so cleanup is minimal

More to come

I've also made some 10mm rocker cover spacers for those fitting roller rockers, we have a set fitted on a griff here and are performing well, no leaks:-)
I'll post a photo later, I have the PDF with the laser cutters for these....

Thanks guys,
It's been an interesting project, they will fit all the RV8 I think, I have fitted one on my 89 wedge and the spacers are on a 5ltr griff so the hole configuration is the same....

May as well go for DOHC then.... Rover did some prototype ones apparently. You'll need a front cover to go with it.

Ready for the engine enamel, I used por15 engine paint.
And finished,

Getting the filler neck off the old cover was a mission as it had been epoxy'd on but sanded and polished it finishes them off nicely...

Just got to fit the other one now. Adam Q any tips for easy removal of the throttle linkage and can the supercharger stay put?
Cheers

Yes the other side is a pain. You can undo the throttle body from the back of the supercharger in situ. Although one of the hex head bolts is hard to get at you don't have to undo all 4, you can swing it out of the way after removing three.
