I have asked this before but not sure we got any kind of definitive answer.

Do we know either exactly or approximately how many 390SE survive today? I believe there is a way of checking how many are on the road and how many are SORN but not sure how you do this if in fact you can.

Tricky,

this would appear to cover the majority of Wedges:

http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/tvr_missing

There are some separate categories for 280, 400SE and 450SE's. But not 390SE's.

Interestingly if you look at this:

http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/tvr_400_se#!m...

There were only 4 made in 1989, 3 are on SORN (maybe Martin's at the time?) so the two 400SX's (which were originally 400SE's) are the only two from 1989 still on the road!

So my 1989 400se (which is on the road because I drove it today tongue out ) is not currently on the road.....?

Was it SORN'ed last year? If you SORN it over the winter that's what the database shows...

As far as I know, it's been on the road for at least the last couple of years.

Hmm then you can't rely on that data either - so the chances of working out 390SE's is pretty low.

I would try the TVRCC archive next...

Going off that information it would seem that as Adam says, it looks pretty difficult to get accurate figures.
Even asking for every owner to come forward on a register would not work as no doubt some folk would prefer to stay private, some would never even come across this request and etc, etc.
Maybe the closest we would get is a real good educated guess from folks that have been on hear for some while and have a good knowledge of wedges and how many have they have come across over the years recognizing the same ones at wedge fests etc etc. Did i say someone who has been on hear a while with knowledge Adam?smile

I think i have only had one in the Wedge calendars over the past 4 years...None in the BNG2012 Wedge calendar with girls...Hopefully this will change...So anyone with a 390SE who hasn't been in a Wedge calendar yet get snapping...(That includes you Steve..smile )

Put an advert in the national paper announcing that every owner of a 390SE Wedge, roadworthy or not, has won a life changing prize, and they'll all come forward like a shot. Just make sure you do it on the morning of the 1st of April.biggrin

Most 390SE's were sold by the factory/dealers as 350i with 390SE options, official figures will not have this information so the 390SE's will be hidden within the figures for 350i.

When I bought mine, I specified that it should not have the model decals applied so you would only know it externally as a 390 by the mirrors (not available at the time on 350), by the rear spoiler and exhaust, the air intakes in the front spoiler and the bib spoiler. And the extra pain in the pocket.

It became obvious once you started the engine though!

If you look at http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/tvr_missing#!...
it shows some pretty random stuff really including a 10l beast, and something with a mower engine.

This row gives the on road vs SORN figures:

3900cc to 3999cc 135 140

Maybe that's what you're looking for?

Adam, as you said before though, wouldn't this include the 400's? as there where only 100 or so built originally I can't imagine there being a large number 390's left, by the way did any of these built go abroad?

Come on who's going to guess at a figure?smile

the TVRCC archive (if you're a member) is a great resource

I was able to get a copy of the original factory build sheet.........so they will have the full list of what was built

I remember seeing a pink 390SE driving through the centre of Stockhollm (Sweden not Wisconsin) around 1987, it fair took my breath away as it rumbled past at very low revs.

Many of the early 390SEs were registered by the factory as 3495cc capacity not 3905cc, I haven't changed mine (but I do tell the insurance co.)

Glen, whereabouts is this info on the website? I couldn't find a suitable link. I've also just called the TVRCC office and they were unaware of where this info was saved?

Thanks. Keith

Not sure we can count this one if you only saw it back in 87, it probably hasn't survived and being pink shouldn't have done!! eek
